Well, I'm kind of new when it comes to music but I heard from a friend that this site is full of top-notch composers.

So, here I am.

Anyway, my first composition I think is even worthy of being shared is an attachment, Through New Eyes.

Hello! Nice to meet you and welcome! :)

Your piece is very interesting. You drilling B's and D's into something that is in C major haha! I like how you go off into a little Atonal spill at the end, but I think it would be criticized by a lot of people haha. I do like the mood it...sets, but if the tonality was clearer then it would give it a more happy feel, but it depends on what you want in the piece hehe.

One again, welcome! :)

Thanks for the warm welcome. Is there anyway to edit attachments? Anyway, I'm uploading something I made, in a few min. Not finished yet, just to get my topic moving a bit, y'know?

Sorry about what's left over at the end, my program did that for god-knows-why.

Hmmm, interesting. That random string/percussion insert seemed pretty random. Are you going to go somewhere with that?

Yeah. It's going to be a fully orchestral song, this isn't close to finished. :heh:

Just needed some material in this topic is all.

Thank you very much. Although, I made the decision to put that project on hiatus due to my random outbreak into making a new good sounding song.

Woa. Cool! haha. I'm just double checking, you want it to be Atonal right? haha.

It started a seed for you to grow on so don't loose this composition, as a reminder of how far you have come! I unfortunately lost mine a long time ago! haha!

Do you want to change your first composition? It's fine to, just yea...maybe I have too many sentimental values! haha

So, I found where windows kept the the almighty error sounds. The secret to all it's power :shifty:, so I made this quick. It's short, but it was a test to see how well I like FL Studio. I love it.

Now, I should take my time and write like I would with a serious piece, but use those sounds.

Hi, another *not done* piece. This one I'm actually doubting I'm gonna finish, I might cut off the rest of the bass line and make it A LOT shorter than planned.

*note that the bass line continues after the melodies end.

The ONLY reason I'm posting this now, is for opinions on if I should scrap it or not.

Hello all, I was very... daring with this project. "The Demon Slayer" Uses 3 channels, one Trance, one metal, and one alternative. Tell me what you think!

Hey, sorry, I promise we're not just ignoring you (well, I'm not at least)!

"The Castle" is OK, but it doesn't seem to build much interest. I'm not sure what to say besides maybe finding a way to build tension throughout the piece using dynamic interest, the amount of instruments you use, etc.

Haha thanks, it was really just percussion practice... so how was the percussion?

Castle - That was really cool haha. It had a great pulse. Do you write video game music?

Windows Error Song was insane! haha!

Also, do you think I should do another winerror song?

Keep at it! :thumb:

Edit I: Thanks for all the positive comments, guys! Is this place getting more active since I've joined?

Working on the next Win Error song now!

But first, I created a test using some soundfonts I found. I call it "Perverse Angel" (The people in MY age-group laugh at the name. I don't really hang around many people my age for that reason: they're damn immature). Also, while I'm going on about myself, people say I look and act a lot older than I am.

Anywho, could anybody point out what's wrong with "Perverse Angel", please. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Okay guys- this is my first piece that I REALLY, TRULY tried my best on. It may not sound like much but I really put my heart into this for all of 2009 so far, and it's only about a minute long. In fact, it sounds simpler than my other songs, but I don't think a single not it EXACTLY the same as the first sketch of it. This is what a friend and I will play at a show this year, I'm going to be on harp, he's going to be on flute.

EDIT I: Okay, I'm going to share with you the music I upload to newgrounds (usually not my best) that I didn't upload here:
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/279147 (Broken Passion)
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/282951 (City of the Modern Future)
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/238419 (Ricky's theme; previously called "Break the Sands of Time")
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/272535 (With Blessing)

If this is, in some way breaking a rule, I apologize. I just though that there's no reason to upload to the web twice, that would be a waste of Mr. Admin's pocket change, don't ya think?

Oh hey there.

New song! It's called Clad in Red (It's a battle theme for an RPG when you fight a specific enemy)

EDIT: Ignore the file name; I accidentally saved over another song (Which wasn't that good).

"Clad in Red"

What program did you use to write this?

I like the drum beats going on the background. The main theme is kind of lacking, and I positively hate whatever that voice is that's playing it. It sounds like you're flogging a cat.

I would add some more orchestration and lose whatever effect is making the "meow" sound.

halfangelfreak
November 16th, 2009, 09:51 pm
Hmm... I liked that "meow" sound. Whatever, it wasn't really that serious a thing. I fiddle around with it once I get the chance.

Mystery of Hats WIP.
This is for a stage in Damian's game (Well, you don't know hem ) But, I just want opinions on the song. I know the Sitar is a lil' random, but I have plans to work it in some more.

By the way, it's not about a Hats, it's a song for a silly character that calls himself Mr. Hats.

Enemy base at 12 O'Clock. Tried some new stuff in here, so please give it a listen!

The intro would sound bit smoother in my opinion if you just held down the first note while scaling the rest. I liked the pizz line you wrote, and it works pretty well with the soft BD murmurs. Part at 1:16 feels kind of empty, probably cause the abrupt drop out of all those instruments - I'd probably smooth that transition a bit more. All in all though, it's a pretty interesting piece.

About the "meow" comment, one of the last thing you want gamers to think of in a battle sequence is kittens.

"Enemy Base at 12 'OClock" is fun. The counterpoint sounded a little weird to me towards the end. Ever read "The Study of Counterpoint" by Fux? It's good times. You don't have to be quite so rigid as he is, but it gives you a nice idea of how it works.

Windows Error Song
Lulz, this is one of the more creative pieces I have heard!

Demonic Demon Slayer.
Not my cup of tea. It's not very interesting.

The Demon Slayer.
Omg... there is such a disconnect between the left and the right speakers. I understand that you split them on purpose but they sound weird together, like two different styles pancaked into one.

I think you should pick one feeling: freaky-sounding (right side) or weird fighting scene(ish) (left). They are both good on their own and could be excellent with expansion.

(Actually, it doesn't sound so weird without headphones because the left side is not so noticable. It's more in the background. Maybe you shouldn't split them? (Yeah, that sounds much better.)

The Castle.
From this, I get the sensation of some important... perhaps soldier(ish) persons approahing a castle. However, it's not a "serious" feeling. Kind of like a silly thing I'd see on Spongebob or something. That being said, it has potential. If I were you, I would do something to set it more apart from other such sounding songs. I wouldn't say that to everyone but you seem very capable of being unique and fun!

Now, if that's what you were going for, then you hit the mark. Not quite my style.

(The snare(?) in the background is a nice touch!)

Perverse Angel.
It's not bad. Unlike some of your other songs, there was nothing unexpected or unique(ish). (Yes, I... kind of modified an absolute! Oh noes! ...Hey. This music would kinda fit in right here!)

Clad in Red.
I am confuzzled by this song.

Mystery of Hats WIP.

I have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on in this song. It makes me want to learn about Mr. Hats, though. From this song, I get the impression that he is an incredibly odd, unique and somewhat disoriented (or high) fellow. Lol! (Edit: Okay, so this is one of those songs I needed to listen to more to like it more. I'm starting to get with the weirdness xD)

Wow- it's been a long time. But I've been working on little something.

The name states what this one's about. PLEASE C+C....

I edited it a lil' bit to make it a little smoother. I'm working on something new but I'm only 40 second in, so I'll hold off on that. Anyway, I'm working on fixing the "Meow" sound, too.

Edit: Shit! This is the old mp3! I can't find the new one. >.< Crud... *goes back to Sibelius*

Here, to keep this post from being... spam... I have a question, should I finish this piece? (The one labeled "lolwut", for lack of a better title)

It sounds interesting. I like the intro. I would like to hear a different timbre for that other wave that enter. The percussion sounds weak, maybe find a way to make it fatter or filled with other elements. But could be that you are missing a good bass. :asuka:
