On a whole, what do you think of the Final Fantasy music?
I think it's amazing, Square some how manage to find a musical piece to fit every mood. The variation of styles is astounding and the talent is limitless!
What did you think?

Yea, Nobue Uematsu is great!
On the other hand, who is the poor guy/girl that has to sit there and think of a new variation of the chocobo music... *Lifts his hand and starts counting his fingers* 1...2...3...4... well there's too many variations to count.

Am I correct in saying that Nobuo Uematsu has recently retired?

I think he's going into retirement. I personally think Celes' and Rachel's Themes were the best.

He didn't compose the Final Fantasy X-2 music, which greatly surprised me and dissapointed me also. Because of this, I would say he is going to in to retirement but the the new composers will never match his standards. I felt the modern, fast music in FFX-2 was quite bad and I wish that Nobuo would return to his former place.

I'm sure all of us will miss Nobue Uematsu... The first time I played Melodies of Life in my Choir class (yes, I sing in choir...) a few of the girls were in tears because they said it was beautiful... ahh... like heaven to me~ Anywho, I'm still trying to convince one of my fellow classmates to do a duet on the Final fantasy 7 battle theme with me(Not the Ichigo sheet music version, but the Mike Kruse's version... the one that you need 2 pianos to perform ^^) I told her about this site... and I'm wondering why she isnt in the forums... *glares evily off to the side*

( a little bit, but still some envy )

Thanks...I'm flattered... I think. You know why I named myself miroku? SO DO I! Oh wait... that makes sense. But really the reason I named myself miroku is... I just like how it sounds lol. As for Mayasaki, It was just something random that I wanted for a last name. Honestly if I could change my name it would be Miroku Mayasaki...no reason really except that it sounds cool to me. Since this IS a music topic I'll post something musical as well. On Eternal Harvest I screw up so much it isnt even funny. It's like *BAM* I try to hit a middle C and *BAM* I hit B or C# -_-' I do this like... 10 times throughout the song lol...

I will say after working in a music library, and seeing how many different variations of a shakers theme (the tune of simple gifts) you will understand. The collective music is just the varations of the previous games, for instance the fanfare in ff4 is the same in ff7... coincidance or luck, but this still does not change the fact that the music is great and spectacular

Nobuo Uematsu is an amazing composer and I love his music. I'm always surprised how it gets better and better in every game. My favourite has always been Balamb Garden although.

The following pieces are ranked one of the highest pieces of musical litreature for computer games. (final fantasy related)
[1] Aeris Theme - yes we all loved it.
[2] Eyes on me - we loved this aswell.
[3] Melodies of Life - how could you not love it?
[4] To Zanarkand - it's such a sad piece....
[5] Tifa's Theme - it's slow, but sounds really good.
This was according to the European Square site, it's in numerical order (best at top, working down) and it's all taken from single sales.

I'm not surprised about Aries's Theme. It's so pretty. I've never heard any of the other as much. I like the darker, more mysterious songs.

Yeah, pieces like Sephiroth's Theme and Rhthym of Immortality are brilliant! Have you heard them?
Sondagger
April 10th, 2004, 02:26 am
I've heard Sephiroth's Theme. I've got that for Piano. My friend listened to that too. She said that in some parts it sounds like an evil bunny is hopping by. She drew a funny pic about that.

Yes, I must admit that it does at times sound like that. Have you got any finale arrangments on that piece? Or originals for that matter lol....?

I don't think so. I went on MSN and searched for Final Fanstast 7 sheet music. It gave me this site that had TONS of Final Fantasy sheet music. I'll have to find the site again.
BlackMage
April 10th, 2004, 02:32 am
Yeah, well if you do, send me the URL or a link and we can discuss the music further!

If the link doesn't work them you can always follow these directions.
1. Go to MSN.com
2. in the search bar type in this exactly: Final Fantasy VII Sheet Music
3. Go down to about the sixth one. It'll say index. At the bottom the url it gives is www.geocities.com/doofus1
I'm not sure which works for you.

April 12th, 2004, 03:52 am
Well, i believe that disneyland just finished building a music hall. And the LA Philharmonic and the master chorale ( i think...) are playing the music. It should be rather grand considering how awesome the music is. *sigh*

One of my friends was a timpany player at his high school. It was cool because his band did an entire concert based on the Final Fantasy series. It was awesome because I recognized almost all of the songs they played. They ended the concert playing the last song you hear on FF3.

I love FF music. I'm always playing FF tunes on the flute. The older songs are the best.
Spinach Rag VI
Battle With Gilgamesh V
Boss Theme IV
Matouya's Cave I
and tons more
The FFCC OST is amazing. All the songs are so much fun just to listen too.

we need to be prepared for new composers after Nobuo retires... there are other great composers from Squaresoft, though not as famous as Nobuo, they can still write good songs...
Terra always remains as one of my favorite pieces from FF series, so is Celes

April 14th, 2004, 12:51 am
Nobuo didn't do the music for FFX-2 or FFCC but both those OSTs are amazing.
However I will be sad when Nobuo retires

I really love 1000 no Kotoba, but that's FFX-2 so I think Uematsu didn't compose it.
We're playing the arrangement of 1000 no Kotoba from Mr. Doof's site in our school flute ensemble. It's so much fun ^_^
My friend got me a copy of the FFCC OST (I'm in heaven ^_^)

If you want a nice piece to play on a wind or flute ensemble, look for The Place I'll Return to Someday from Final Fantasy IX. It's great.

April 22nd, 2004, 09:55 pm
We're already doing that one too ^_^
My grand dream is to arrange an entire evening performance that is Final Fantasy themed. Our school usually does two music shows a year, and they each have a theme (This year's themes were Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker and Broadway)
An FF show would be amazing
BlackMage
April 23rd, 2004, 12:05 pm
But frowned upon by parents, musical evening themes are supposed to be of popular media centres an Final Fantasy sadly isn't one of these. Oh, you should all do pink panther :).

April 23rd, 2004, 08:01 pm
It doesn't really matter what the parents think. It's kinda sad, but a good part of our audience are parents and family, who are gonna come regardless of what the show is. We really need a theme that will attract more students, and I know for sure that a lot of kids at our school are bigger fans of FF then they are of Broadway
and we are gonna play Pink Panther (Our Broadway show is May 22nd)

Good luck with Pink Panther, it's really hard!

Sorry to say this, but I'm not too fond of Nobuo's music.. I only find a very small fraction of his work to be appealing.
Anyone know Yasunori Mitsuda? The Chrono-series, Xeno-series composer. That one is good.
I prefer the Konami composers, though. Castlevania... whooooohoo.

I like both composers' works. But I find a greater amount of pleasure in listening to Yasunori's music, most of the time. :) But you have to admit that Nobuo can make some pretty catchy tunes! (starts humming Aeris's Theme) :P :bleh: :cold:
I also like the music from .hack//SIGN and .hack//LIMINALITY. Anyone head them?

By the way, has anyone heard of that cd called the black mages? It has a bunch of rocked out FF music

Yeah, I have all the Black Mages tune on my PC. They're all, or about all fighting tunes (Dancing Mad, Those Who Fights Further, Jenova, Etc...), but they're very, very good arrangements and I love it. :D
