ok, all the compositions i(ll) made/make, get in this topic. ^_^

first one: "Lost in Memories" (re-recorded)

P.S: you might notice some off keys, i think I'll re-re-record it someday

my second one: "A Summer Night's Rain"
I really like this one :) I hope I captured the feelings in this song. It's supposed to sound, exactly like what the titled says, a summer night's rain :P
Well, it's a little bit too short... seems like i have to write a second part -_-

Matt

third one: "serene ~impromtu~"
i recorded this improvisation just recently hope you like it  (at least a lil'...)

nice recordings, but did you record them on a keyboard, or on a piano?

Al

Yeah, you did capture your feelings, nice job. Although I thought "A Summer Night's Rain" was more serene than "Serene" =P

nice recordings, but did you record them on a keyboard, or on a piano?i recorded them on my e. piano via aux -> line-in.

Title: "Walking in the Moonlight"

Erm, my first attemp in writing a "spirited" song ^_^
It's a bit short though, and the ending is not really an ending~~
Well, hope you enjoy it :)

untitled1:
To be honest, I didn't hear much distinguishing between the moods (don't get me wrong, it was nice throughout), but your transpositions are smooth =)

Walking in the Moonlight:
Ah, you've managed to capture the setting properly! ^^ For some reason, I think of a beach . .

Title: Medieval 1

*ehem* I proudly present my first medieval song! (and first song with good harmony^^)
I'll gonna add another part to it later, it's kinda short up to now ^^

Hope I get some comments this time XD

PS.:Thanks Gnomish for your advices :)

Untitled 3: Nice flowing feeling, and the melody has some great ornaments! Reminds me of the ocean or riding a horse through a forest. :) Great job!

Medieval 1: Good theme! Is this for quartet? Or trio? The subtle percussion is just the thing you needed to make it complete that medieval feel. :) Keep it up! The cello part is good, as well. I also like how the parts cut out one by one until that final part in the last flute/recorder part. Are you going to continue w/ more medieval pieces?

Matt
February 4th, 2005, 04:37 pm
yay! thank you Gnomish :)

Madieval 1 is for Recorder Trio + Cello

Are you going to continue w/ more medieval pieces?
hell yeah! :D
Like you said, it's the best way to improve your harmonization skills. ^^
lol and it's fun! you somehow have much more freedom in harmonizing medieval pieces than other ones

Untitled3:
What Gnomish said! It does sound fun to play. I could just sit down at the piano and then out of the blue, I know I could just play that, hehe.

Medieval1:
Ah, too short! But hmm, nicely done, I feel music you'd hear at the ballroom courts back then.

Oh, I really like the harmony! Hmm, for your title, I picture something . . something that's temporary/transient . . x.x I don't know how to say it. But it fits in with the length of your piece =P

But it fits in with the length of your piece =P
tehee~ I knew you would say something like this! XD ok, well, it's true... anyways!
I made some new pieces :D Here's the first one. Enjoy! ^_^

P.S: The LH is a bit primitive, hope you don't mind :)

The second one is an improvisation, it sounds a bit messy at some parts, but all in all, it's by far my best improvisation up to now! :D (sounds like anime music to me X_X)

P.S: I'll post the other ones tomorrow :)

Ballad

Primitive LH my foot! :P I loved this song. The e-piano instrument is just so flowing that it makes me think of walking down a half-lit street of pale streetlights, staring at the stone path as I make my way into the darkness beyond the streetlights. :) Spectacular use of calls and answers in the RH, and the LH never did bore me, even thought it was all block chords. :) Somehow, you made these two elements mesh just properly into a very delightful song! The ending is very nice, as well. :) I love songs that just taper off near the end like that! And judging on the intro/ending, I think it loops very well. I can see you've improved so much from your beginnings in composing.

Improvisation

Very nice! I could hardly tell it was ad libitum (improv). The chord progression did get a bit repetitive, but the tender RH melody covered that up a bit. I would've liked to have seen more accidentals or major passages in between the minor runs, but it is still marvelous for an improv. :) Did you manage to write down the music? Would be a shame to lose it! I believe that the ending could've been a bit more well-prepared and/or cadenced, but it flowed off fairly unnoticed. :)

Keep it up and keep 'em coming! :)

ahhhhhh  thank you Gnomish! I had a once in a lifetime grin while reading your comment, lol.

Did you manage to write down the music? Would be a shame to lose it!
Not yet, I'm really bad at listening to songs and tell which notes were played... It's trial and error all the way <_<

Keep it up and keep 'em coming! :)
muhahaha, I'll take that as a challenge!! There you are! :P It was supposed to be programatic music, but I ended up making it absolute, maybe I'll change that later, but one thing's for sure, this song was definitely fun to play/compose and I even managed to play it properly! Lol, that's rare hehe. Enjoy! :D

P.S: I'm kinda proud of this... =_=
P.P.S: I'll most likely post one or two more songs tomorrow :D

One Fine Day: Great song, Matt-Chan! I like how tempo slows down gradually in the song because it started quickly, like when you wake up and you are very energetic and etc... Then you gradually get tired of all the events of a typical day. Everything in this song is great but I still have a little question about a part of your song, in 0:42-0:44 there seem to be a break/rest and it seem to stop the flow of your song, but it's not much of a problem though... So ignore that if you want :/ .
This song does sound interesting to play!

Good Luck with your compositions! ^_^

Ballad:
Gnomish is right, hehe, somehow the block chords fit in very well with the mood! I wouldn't have it any other way.

Improvisation:
My improvs always turn out messed, so I'm happy to see yours is good! You know, I believe it wouldn't be too hard for me to transcribe this piece, but 1) the sound quality of my downloaded mp3 files become corrupted, and 2) I don't have time =T

One Fine Day:
Programmatic eh? What were you thinking of? What makes it one fine day? =)

thank you Al, Sukarufu ^_^

Programmatic eh? What were you thinking of? What makes it one fine day? =) Haha, It's meant to be ironic, One "fine" Day (in school life) ^^"
I wrote it after a completely messed up school day...
First I overslept and barely made it in time to school, that's the fast part, then... well, it was boring and I read until 3 am, so I somewhat dozed off =_= that's the calm part in the song. lol, after that my teacher "woke" me up, but I didn't came to add this part to my song yet...

:Edit: I made the break between the fast and the slow part a little bit shorter ^^

Matt-Chan^^:

One Fine Day

One Fine Day is a good piece. :) Sounds very much to me like a folk song to me at the beginning, or imagery of the autumn breeze yanking leaves from their branches, scattering them across the plains. :) At around 0:45, the melody becomes very tender, but I was wondering if it'd be more effective if you used octaves in the RH right there to emphasize the gentle melody until the left hand speeds up into triplets. The tempo changes are very gradual, contributing to a very free-flowing and emotional feel throughout the song. Well done!

Dance is a pretty charming piece; I liked the chord development, and the melody is not bad either. Falling Stars was alright too, though the music seemed to rise more than it falls - I was expecting a sort of gradual decent note-wise to portray the falling of stars. Keep at it, though.

Falling Stars

Is that electric piano I hear!? Thumbs up already, even from the very beginning. ;) I don't know what it is... but your LH parts are always so captivating and simplistic, and this song is no exception. The melody didn't really leave me with any one theme to remember, but it was a joy to listen to nonetheless. This song would do very well if you extended it, or it can exist as is and still be very evocative of its title. :) Love those rolled chords near the end.

thanks for your comments guys! (you really seem to love the e. piano Gnomish) :)

back then...

The reverb is the first thing I noticed when I heard this. It's a wonderful aspect of this song! Once the LH part starts to pick up, it really drew me in after that tender introduction. The melody's alternation of notes and rests make for a nice broken feel to the melancholy of the piece. I wasn't quite sure what key this piece was supposed to be in, but it transitioned nicely at all of its parts. The ending left me just a little bit perplexed as to the nature of the piece's overall tone, but it was good nonetheless. :) Another job well done, Matt-Chan^^.

Titel: "Playing in the Snow - Mov. 1"

I hope you can imagine the children playing around in the snow, as for that's what I intended with this song ^_^

I re-recorded my last CMA song "Blooming" (improved version :P)

Playing in the Snow - Mvt. 1

I really like how "sectioned" the piece is. That is, where there's a nice little cadence followed by a new part of the song. I like the well-spaced jumps in the RH melody, and the LH is very nice and unpredictable in a rather playful way. The name is fitting. :) The tender little part near the end of the song is my favorite!

Blooming

I already commented on this in the April CMA voting... but it's a smidge more pleasing to the ears this time, which is quite a big jump, considering it was already so peaceful before. :)
