I'm thinking of getting an 12 hole sweet potatoe ocarina, I've always wanted to get one so I can play zelda songs on it. I was just wandering if anyone had any tips of how to start playing or maby a good place to find them

thanks

I bought a replica of the one from zelda a while back from here

The ocarina is a great instrument and relatively easy to learn as there is practically no embrasure technique required; you just need to memorize the note positions on the holes. But yeah, that site is a good one. They also have various song books for sale as well and an on-line tab composer for the ocarina. Any tips........hmm.......have fun! The ocarina isn't something that you need to work on a lot in terms of technique, just have fun and experiment:lol:

My brother bought this one (http://www.songbirdocarina.com/zelda-ocarinas?page=shop.product_details&category_id=13&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=36), but in blue. I haven't tried it out myself, since he's put his lips on it.

I bought the same one, but in blue as well lol (yes I own the replica and this one). Personally I think the replica is better, has a more clearer and whistle-like sound, and because its a replica :D The only thing is its much more expensive.

A good place to start is with one of the STL ocarinas from www.stlocarina.com. They have a huge variety, and while their ocarinas may not be the absolute best quality, they're affordable and easy to play, and they even sell a couple Zelda songbooks, among others.

I would recommend starting with the basic 12 hole "Tenor" in C, even though it's the most expensive out of the three basic types (Tenor, Alto and Soprano). Plus, it won't require earplugs to play (the higher ones can really pierce the ears.)

Hope this helps!

thanks guys I'll take this into mind I have also subscribed to a few youtube ocarina channels to find the ocarina with the right sound I am looking for. I once had a plastic one but it sounded crap and onlyhad eight holes so I got rid of it. I can't wait to get one they sound so awesome and I have always wanted one
