View Full Version : Taking IV-V Requests

brncao
December 10th, 2009, 09:03 pm
I will take any requests that has a IV-V... chord progression. I will do any instruments [disclaimer: I only play and read piano] except for tabs (somebody else will do it). The iii in a IV-iii can be substituted with a V sometimes; I will mark these with an "*". Video Games, Anime, and J-music (i.e. vocaloid, Jpop/rock, etc.) only!

I'll give many examples for those who are music theory illiterate. Listen subconsciously to the chord qualities and the bass. If you see any errors or non-working videos, please inform me.

That said. It's a first come first serve basis. You may pick from any of the examples I provided or your own. Please search for the sheet music before requesting it (If you request overrated songs like God Knows, I'm going to LMGTFY you and you don't want that treatment). If you're not requesting anything, but want to suggest a song you know, post the video and the exact time to it. I will continue to update the list.

Just in case you're wondering why IV-V, it's my favorite chord progression. I'm working on a medley that will pull these songs together.

Edit: Since this isn't working out... Just recommend me an anime/video game ost and I'll scour through the ost, but please at least try to analyze it a bit.

Okay, since I don't completely understand chord progression stuff yet, I'll just go with one of your suggestions.

Can you make sheets for Astrogation or Yuki, Muon, Madobe Nite?
Such good songs that I have yet to find sheets for on piano. :3

brncao

which one do you want arranged first? Astrogation or Yuki Muon, Madobe Nite?

Hara_Takumi
December 11th, 2009, 02:26 pm
Astrogation please.
Also, if you want (since this is your thread afterall), let others have their picks before Yuki, Muon, Madobe Nite.

Thanks!

December 11th, 2009, 06:53 pm
Ok. I'll get started on it. I'll teach you what chord progressions are after I finish it. It's fairly simple. Once you know it, you'll never look at sheet music the same way before.

Alright, thanks!

brncao
December 15th, 2009, 12:06 am
Here you go. This is a hard arrangement. If you're a beginner at piano, just play the melody alone and make stuff up in the left hand. Use those chord labels above each measure to assist you. ie. EbM7 is Eb, G, Bb, D. Use any of those notes and improvise. Use google if you don't know what the notes are in a particular chord or ask us.

Better yet, if you have a keyboard that has an accompaniment button that includes many styles, I can teach you how to use it, and teach you basic chord progression. What piano do you have?

Hara_Takumi
December 15th, 2009, 02:48 am
It sounds amazing!
I'm not really a beginner (7 and counting years of lessons), but the rhythms might take me a bit.
Thanks so much!

December 15th, 2009, 04:12 am
no prob. It's quite challenging.

Anyways since no one is requesting anything... I might as well work on Yuki's song as soon as josh emails me the violin mus file.

Edit: Yuki muon madobe nite postponed until someone requests it.

May I request 'late in autumn' for the piano.
You don't have to do the full arrangements, till 2:17 is fine too!

It's fine for reference purposes. Give me the link to the youtube video you are referring to and I'll check the chord progression. If it fits, then I'll PM you.

I'll get started on it. Lucky for you I had the first chorus completed before I started this thread. I'll go up to 2:17 then, and if nobody requests anything thereafter, I'll make a full version. 6 min is quite long.

Nice arrangement! That treble part where you have syncopated chords overlapping the melody looks a little intimidating though; but then again, I'm not much of a piano player!

Looking forward to hearing more arrangements here.

Here's the short version of "Late in Autumn." On second thought I don't feel like doing the long version. It's repetitive except for the key change at the end, which I'm sure you can figure out.

Just out of curiosity. Can you tell me the times when it uses the IV-V chord progression? Good ears because I spot two. I just want to know if you know where it is.

Senhiro

I can't tell yet =(

brncao
December 17th, 2009, 06:14 am
haha that's all right. The beginning is a IV-V-iii-vi chord progression up until 0:21. The second one (pre-chorus) is a IV-V-iii-vi in double time at 1:15. Listen to the bass. It goes up, down, up. Going from IV to V is up, V to iii is down, and iii to vi is up. If you don't like roman numerals then use 4-5-3-6. Just listen to the examples and this one and it'll grow on you. That's what ear training is all about.

Tbh It's too happy sounding especially the chorus. I'm not a fan of happy music. America is full of them that it gets boring. I'm just gonna transcribe the pianist's performance. Is that fine with you?

Senhiro
December 17th, 2009, 10:32 am
Yes please That would be great

By the way, what you're telling me it's also pretty much the same as this?

The theory? Yes. However, don't interpret IV,V as the same with I,IV,V. They're totally different.

Anyone play the violin and viola? I need someone to check it. I don't know how I should use slurs because my music teacher said slurring means bowing multiple notes in one direction. I don't play string instruments so I need some help. I don't even know the difference between an up-bow and a down-bow :heh:

Can violists read treble clef? I know it's alto clef, but I'm not sure if they're taught to read treble as well.

The song is almost done. Just need to make it look pretty lol.

Here's the preview (http://www.mediafire.com/?tyld3tljtwm) of the song. I exported it from Finale into a DAW application since Finale+midi didn't do it any justice. It's really nice. The only thing left is to freshen up the score and wait for a response to my question above.

Uh, I'm not sure that violists are taught to read treble clef.
I'm sure some know how, but I'm pretty sure that they aren't normally taught to.
But I don't play viola, just violin and piano, so don't trust my answer too much.

I think I found some that are IV-V
It's good that I'm going out and looking for these now, since I don't usually do things like this.
Please take a look at either of these when you're finished with your current requests.

Justice to Believe by Mizuki Nana has some part in the chorus with IV-V (I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCoaPVVLN50 (sorry that it's an AMV)

Pray by Mizuki Nana has an introduction with IV-V.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlAptARrBSs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RKpcgZgAek)

I'll continue finishing up YMMN. I was sidetracked with my medley.

Justice to Believe doesn't use IV-V. I think it's Am: i-VI-VII-v... In other words the bass goes like this: A-F-G-E. Not F-G-E-A, which is a IV-V-iii-vi progression.

Pray uses it in the chorus, but you got the answers from him lol.

Hara_Takumi
January 8th, 2010, 01:31 am
Oh, okay. I must've not paid attention and misheard. Sorry about that.
I think I'll have to try again then with another song once I can recognize IV-V easier.
So just to make this clear for myself, a IV-V for let's say, an E♭ song would be A♭ -> B♭, right?

It's finally done! It was a hassle trying to fix the spacing and page layout. Notify me if you see any errors. I don't play string instruments so I don't know.

This arrangement is for Piano, Violin, and Viola. I'm also providing raw flac files of each instrument you heard in the preview so you can use that to practice or accompany with. You'll need an application that has multitrack session so you can place them in each track and mute tracks.

Download Audacity. Import the flac files into each track and mute the track of your respective instrument. Play along! If you just want to listen to it, just export the entire thing to mp3.

Anyway, if you don't have other requests (and when you aren't busy anymore), could you possibly try Keikenchi Joushochuu (経験値上昇中☆)? I figured that since I'm bad at identifying IV-V progressions, choosing from your suggestions would be easier.
