View Full Version : Any reccomendations for a beginner?

I am a beginner pianist. I played a bit in elementary, let it go. Never learned to read music, cheated by writing it beside the notes. I played for a year in high school as well and also "cheated" in this way. I'm older now and determined to learn to play piano this time. I've started memorizing the notes (a lot easier than I assumed it to be previously) and I've got the treble clef pretty much down, about to start working on the bass clef. Anyway, does anyone have any sheet music suggestions on this site that would be any good for a beginner? One of the problems when I took piano classes before was not playing pieces that interested me for practice.

Thanks for any suggestions.

EDIT: I found the reccomendation thread so sorry for the over-post! If anyone knows how to delete this post to save space on the forum let me know. Thank you!

I know this suggestion is vague, and you might not like it, but I have to say, practice songs you like, and that are slightly challenging to your abilities. Your brain has an easier time learning, and storing information when you have a positive attitude toward something. So i would recommend just make it as enjoyable as possible. Don't choose songs based solely on your playing level.

Try to mix it up too, too much repetition can take the fun out of what you're doing. The most important aspect of music is enjoyment. If you're not enjoying it, then what are you really doing?

Best of luck to you!
