I played it alittle a few years ago, but ever really got into it, like "online" into it. Then WC3 came out and I completely forgot about it. Can't really stand playing it much nowadays. :/

My one friend has WarCraft III with the expansion pack. It's a very nice game.

Starcraft is so underrated....
in my opinion it's still one of the BEST!!

I like Zerg or Terran when playing long games like Zero Clutter or Money. But i prefer Protoss when playing No Rule games or Lost Temple (or any ladder game maps)

V_V because i lend my CD to friend...now i can't play it!!! X_X

ahh...starcraft

i love this game...especailly when you enter the cheat " show me the money" and you build hordes after horders of battlecruisers and send them to destroy everything in sight~ muhahaha!

just kidding, i enter cheats when i get real bored only~ and my favourite tactic against 3 computer players is the protoss's proton cannons behind forges...and i will rush for carriers~ lots and lots of carriers.... but when it is against human, normally, i will go for marine-stim pack-medic-ghost-nuke combo~ trust me...it's fun seeing your opponent panic when they hear "nuclear launch detected"... :D

and funny no one mention the map "Big Game Hunter", maybe it's for wuss like me only :D

Zucriy Amsuna
October 27th, 2004, 10:58 am
Getting lots of Carriers while playing as the Protoss is what I love to do. I wait while the other teams destroy each other (and for the Carriers to be warped in), then I attack each surviving base with my 12 Carriers. Usually by that time, bases are small and plentiful. But it's so funny seeing the enemy confused about what to hit: the Interceptors, or the Carriers? They usually go for whats is attacking them, the Interceptors.

Neerolyte

i hate mass dragoons....
because I dont know how to control the freaking clumsy dragoons and they always got choked up in narrow paths due to their size :)~

and i always got raped by players who used mass dragoon aka the dancing dragoon technique~

and hey, which of the SC units do u guys deem the coolest? i would vote for the reavers~ they are so cute yet powerful~ when you click on them to control them, they will make funny cute noises~ and boy, talk about the devastating power of reaver's drop....2 shuttles, 4 reavers >>> make a mad dash into the enemy's base >>> drop them into the mining area >>> unleash the wrath of the reavers! boom! boom! boom!

I like building walls of Photon Cannons (It would look like a big green blob on the radar), with some aerial units if some Carriers come along.

Zucriy Amsuna
October 27th, 2004, 08:22 pm
I usually surround my base with many Photon Cannons, leaving a hole for my units to attack and defend.

My favourite units are the Carriers (with Interceptors), templar, and mainly the Dark Templar. Double attacks on a big base works nicely with the Dark Templar or Dragoons and the Carriers.

Neerolyte
October 28th, 2004, 03:03 am
in long games i build D
but short games, i never waste my minerals on cannons *not including couple around my Nexuses*

My coolest units will probably be Marine and Zealot. They are the best soldiers ever! so freaking loyal!!!

I used to play against my bro on network cable - naturally, I was crap and he was good, because he always bagged being the Protoss, but I grew to like the Zerg in the end because they multiply really quickly so it's easy to build up a large force :)

I use the Protoss' Dark Archon to use every race. Mind Control the SCVs and the Zerg guys (I forget what they're called); Mind Control the leftover larvae after you defeat a Zerg base. Then steal their spot.

If you become what you have conquered, you have not succeeded.

Tis indeed a good un, if any game was screaming for an update its Starcraft, Warcraft got done so hopefully it may happen. Side note for Starcraft fans that use mame/arcades try out mission craft, vertical shooter with everything ripped from Starcraft & it all works the same way, take out the Protoss pylon & the defense guns go dead etc.. quite enjoyable

To people who really want to improve on their SC skills
there is a function called REPLAY!
it is the best way to improve. When you get PWNED by someone, save and replay and watch how they PWNED you, then utilize that skill, and improve upon it, and maybe you can PWNED some other players. ^_^ at least that's how i improved my SC skills

So, instead of making a new thread, I just decided to use my epoch revival spell to reborn this one!

Anyway, reason being is I just re-installed this fabulous game today and I'm looking for someone to play with on b.net. All the koreans that play on it are way to good, and I don't even get close to winning. So if anyway around here are non-koreans and have sc, lets playyyy.

Drop me a pm with your email and i'll add you on msn. It'll make it much easier to talk that way.

This might make me sound like a sore loser, but please don't call me that until you've actually tried to beat them. Insanely pro...

I'm not particularly looking forward to it coming out. They gameplay is so similar to war3, it looks as if they just used the same engine and just threw new units in. It doesn't allow for any micro, it basically build, move, attack, unlike the current one which has way more excitement.

Not saying I won't buy it and play it, of course I will, it's just they've moved away from the original gameplay style which is what made starcraft so unique in it's time.

So I'm getting into this game now, too. Only two days, but I'm taking the super-Padawan approach and reading up Liquipedia and watching progamer videos. This game's got me hooked and I don't think it's going to let go for a while, since it's so damn complex and SKILL based <3

Actually, I'll have to completely disagree with this statement. As primarily a Warcraft 3 player with a little bit of knowledge in Starcraft, I find that the game is much more similar to the first Starcraft in concept and gameplay. I think most people will agree that Warcraft is much more about micro while Starcraft about macro, due to the fact that units die slower in WC, army sizes are smaller, and you typically gather much more resources in SC compared to the units' costs. If you go into a WC game just building and attack moving, you will lose against anyone who's remotely competent. However, if you macro well in Starcraft, even micro-less play will net you wins against players who don't use strategies that require micro to beat (eg. storm, etc.).

For that reason, I'm actually a little less excited about SC2. Personally speaking, I feel that SC's gameplay seems less clear in that it's harder to find concrete goals to pursue and grasp the flow of the game compared to WC.

Phard

Wrong. If one person micros during battle and the other just macros like a fiend, the micro'er will win.

Personally speaking, I feel that SC's gameplay seems less clear in that it's harder to find concrete goals to pursue and grasp the flow of the game compared to WC.

A loaded statement. When you say its harder to find concrete goals to grasp the flow of the game, what do you mean by that? Gameplay itself? Or ease of use? If you are talking about gameplay, then there is definitely a flow. Every race has build orders, and has to adapt to what their enemy is doing.

Milchh
July 21st, 2009, 06:28 am
You're both wrong. It really depends what race you are using in SC. All races are balanced, but some use more macro while some have more micro. I have chosen the Terran race, which means I must be more focused on production, therefore I'll be working on my macro. This doesn't mean I need a good micro, since the Terran "Ball" maneuver requires good skills of moving my force of Marines, Medics and Firebats. Let's not forget, a timing push requires a lot of macro, but an equal amount of micro for positioning of Siege Tanks, Vultures/Spider Mines, Turrets.

StarCraft is a bunch more balanced and you can't just win with micro or macro alone, you need to be proficient at BOTH. You may be able to create a large and power army of units, but they mean nothing if you can control them. And just because you can control your units well (unless you're a Protoss... "Small but Powerful") doesn't mean they're a good force. And with Protoss quote I mentioned, you need to be able to have a good build order in order to create that powerful little force of yours. :)

Phard

Not true. Dark swarm is imba.

Milchh
July 21st, 2009, 07:49 am
How is Dark Swarm a race? You CAN avoid and destroy more important things. Do you know much about strategy, Phard? And your micro must be fairly slow to say such things. The game is balanced, because there is ALWAYS a WAY.

Just because: Liquipedia (http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Main_Page) and Team Liquid (http://www.teamliquid.net/)

No, I still stand by my point. Not microing in Starcraft is far less detrimental than no microing in Warcraft. If you have a superior economy and upgrades, simply massing an army, attack moving, and reinforcing it effectively can still let you beat low-mid level players. However, this sort of strategy is far less applicable in Warcraft because maps are smaller, economy generally depends on only one or two mines, and the presence of heroes.

Of course, once you get into the pro scene, just about everyone needs to have good macro and micro.

Milchh
July 22nd, 2009, 05:50 am
I would correct your statement of "low-mid" players. If you thought about it that way, it'd only be LOW players. Class D. And bad class D players at that. It's all about building the best force and economy in the shortest amount of time so you can do as many things as you can to win, or at least to not lose.

Yeah, I played it when I was around 11 (8 years ago). It made picking up SC II pretty easy, my learning curve wasn't very steep. Abuncha my friends have SCII, so I don't think I'll be making the switch back to bw.

Phard
February 5th, 2012, 10:01 am
Fair enough. I've played both games and I must say, bw is a lot more refined. Which makes sense, as it has been played professionally for about 10 years.

I've watched a LOT of sc2 and a LOT LOT more bw and sc2 still seems... coin-flippy to me. So many pro games end with one big battle and that's it. I prefer the back and forward action leading to a big battle that bw has.

If I get my pc back, I might get sc2 on it and we can play :)
