Okay well, I'm not sure I'm in the right topic to place this in but, what ever. Okay well, I'm just begining to play piano, I've had like 3 or 4 lessons, And I can easily play songs that start on a octive, and stay on that same octive for most of the song =\ So I Uber horrible. And, now I gots a question, How long did it take most of you to get good. I've tried other instruments like, Viola, Guitar, and Drums, and now I'm at piano. :)

Define your definition of good, for all of us have different opinions. I think when I got "good" at piano was not when I sounded really good but when I could fell the music and understand and phrase it to beauty

When I say good I mean, able to play a kick arse piece with no trouble, just having to practice it

No one can play a "kick arse" piece without trouble my friend. If you are good, you will find many mistakes that seem unlikely to most.

Well, like, when i mean a "Kick Arse" Piece, I mean simple pieces, but have alot of meaning to it. On the Anime Music, Click E, and scroll to the Evangelion Series, Rei I makes me cry half of the time, and The Beast II is so strong, those are "Kick Arse" peices in my view. Most of all those songs on Evangelion are awsome, worth listening to over and over.

Heh, I know a member who would totally disagree on that. Hm...it all depends on your views I guess. I cant do anything for you now.

Ever heard of the piece "rondo alla turca?" GAWD... that is the one kick arse piece in the world. IT TOOK ME 8 YEARS TO LEARN THAT PIECE (and all the pieces in between)!!!!!!!!! Just for you're info, a kick arse piece doesn't have to be hard, and any1 can play your definition of a kick arse piece without any trouble with no problem. I actually have a friend mentioned in most of my posts that has no piano skills at all, but just reads music. I got him rondo alla turca for his birthday. He's learning it one note at a time. He's had it for a month, and gotten to about the third line (with no trouble). So how much practice is how little trouble you'll have.
Edit: as in... the more practice, the less trouble... ... ... yeah.
I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT I JUST WROTE, BUT IT MUST BE PROFOUND (i think...?)

Everyone has their own definition to "kick arse piece"- and in saying "with no trouble, just having to practice it" do you mean this as in being able to sight read the piece, and just go back and correct a few bars to get it sounding perfect? I know one person who can do that (it's really annoying) and have no idea how long he has been playing for- anyway, it isn't a question of how good you are- it's a question of how well and how quickly you can apply your skills to different pieces.

I mean, like you find a piece thats pretty complex, and you sit at it, and in 1-2 week you got it nailed...

that's kinda...impossible because no one can be "good" at a piece in 2 weeks

Ahhh I know some people that can do it, well I don't KNOW them, but at band practice, the teacher gives them a piece of music, and by the next weak, they got it down and have to wait for the rest of the class.... But i doubt it's too hard, but it seems hard....

It depends. It may take forever or no time at all. I got good at my first lesson. Good is different depending on how long you've been playing and your level.
