View Full Version : Which Final Fantasy has the best storyline?

I've only played and finished FFVII, VIII and Tactics Advance. And I've played VI and Crystal Chronicles.

I'td have to be a toss up between VII and VIII, though I'd have to say VII. Didn't really like the love story of VIII. As for Tactics Advance and CC, the stories sucked because the games were aimed more at gameplay. VI had too many characters for my liking.

I'll say the best storyline would belong to Final Fantasy VII and X.

FF6, the others blow XD

FF1 or FF2 was great, something like "four boys fell in a whole and gained superpowers, and they decided to use their powers to save the world from evil" or something like that, and then you start the game XD

FVIII was probably the best in my opinion ^_^

I feel that the absolute BEST storyline goes to FFVII. I cried when Aeris died, and I don't cry easy. The storyline was completely involved with detailed backrounds, clear distinct points, easter eggs glore (sp?), and the charaters' personalitys' covered the many fields of all game players.

I'm a faithful FFVII fan. Far beyond the others in my limited opinion.
FFI, II, and III were awesome too. heh. I miss the old ones!

I liked FF9 since it had a lot of elements from the old games (best thing: a 4 person party instead of 3). Storywise it wasn't too great though, a bit DBZ like, lol.

FFVII! I was caught by the hype. Went onto FFVIII, hated it (as with IX, what was up with that Kuja guy?). Then through some backtracking (FFIV, V, and VI in the west?) I concluded that VII is the best (probably because I played it first, although VI had a pretty great storyline in itself). Nothing quite shocked me like Aeris death in a game, before, really. Its kinda like the more modern version for mortal kombat enthusiasts hearing 'Lui Kang is dead' for the first time.

mmm ff VIII all the way~! it's bad to have an ffvii fan and an ffviii fan in one room...they tend to argue a lot. Soooo i'm standing in gamer's paradise minding my own business and one of the ppl that work there just came up to me and said he hated ff viii...and i was like ok...and then i looked down and i saw that i was wearing the griever necklace HAHA~! and then he started complaining about the gunblade - how does it fire? the only way it can fire is if it shoots off it's gun.

=_= hey now, you don't see me complaining about the buster sword in how the handle would easily break in real life with a blade that big

in my opion, i would have to say that ff 7, ff9, and tatics(for playstation) where the best. i may think lulu is hot, but that dosent make 10 or 10-2 better, just more atractive.....

Its wierd..
The only FF game I've ever played is FF8. And its a great game. Can't deny it. But for some reason, I just wasn't drawn into the storyline. I don't know, I mean, I loved the game, but it felt like I was being forced into a world I didn't want to enter.

Anyone else get the same feeling?

ARGH~! FF 6~~~~ i still haven't finished it because ... there's TOO MANY CHARACTERS~! stupid...3 teamed...section...of tower~! i tend to just level up like certain few -- therefore it's easy to conclude that i hate leveling up useless characters.

FF7 and FF3/6. I can't seem to choose. FF2 was also a favorite of mine but it had a much simpler storyline IMO.

Hmm. I think it's based on which FF one played first. I started on FF7 and it became my favorite, a friend of mine started on FF8 and it became his favorite O.O

I personally liked the FFX storyline the most. This was the first game I played, and I've loved it so much (this must be the 50th time I've said it) I taped the storyline on VHS tapes (4 of them w/ gameshark.) To me, FFX had an absolutely perfect storyline. Very very good character developtment, a good ending, nice music, and plenty of cinemas. The other FF's just don't seem to match this.

mine has to be ff7 then it would be FFX. has anyone ever thought that apart from the storyline another thing that helped it be so great was the music. gotta love nobuo uematsu

luigimansion
November 16th, 2004, 08:10 pm
Yeah, the music of Final Fantasy is awesome ^^ However, Nobuo Uematsu quit, so he's not gonna be composing for Final Fantasy anymore T_T (http://www.ffaddicts.com/). The guy who wrote the storylines for Final Fantasy quit too... just a short while after Squaresoft became Square Enix.

Nobuo's retirement was on the talks ever since like FF7 =_=

And the scriptwriter just HAD to go after FFX-2:Charlie's Angels

bah.. my like for FF series is now moving from dislike to strong hate as the number counts up =_=

WHAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!! How could they quit!!? The final fantasy storylines were the GREATEST!!!! And the music was the best music I had ever heard, HANDS DOWN!!!
The music was all so emotional and involving. All I know is FFXII beter be great or I'm taking out the shotgun.

I dunno I have played a lot of rpg's and I would say a few of them get the toss up for tops
Final Fantasy VII PS
Final Fantasy IX PS
Lunar Silver Star Story Complete PS
Legend of Zelda SNES
Legend of Zelda Ocorana of Time N64
Chrono Cross PS
Chrono Trigger SNES
Legend of Mana SNES
Suikoden II PS
And a bunch of others I can;t seem to remember right now

Reason Final Fantasy VIII isnt on list is becasue I was level 99 before I even fougth ifrit and that kinda ruins the rest of the game...

Newlycomposer
November 30th, 2004, 03:42 am
Secret of Evermore SNES
Super Mario RPG The Legend of the Seven Stars SNES

Rememberd these great games!!

If you see a game above and havn't played it get them there are all worth what ever you pay for them!

They are merged companies. The difference? They tend to do not so good things. You know, FFX-2, AKA Charlies Angels. To be honest, as an RPG, it was a great fashion show.

Enix made the Dragon Quest series (chara illustrator: Akira Toriyama  all the main charactors looked like Goku)
and was considered to be Square's greatest rival, until they merged.. apparently Square was going bankrupt from failure of FF:Spirits within, but I don't buy that.. Enix was dead way before, sometime around when FF:7 was released =_=

FF7 and FFX had better storylines and good sidequests for the games to give a better understanding of the characters, and why they went on the quest in the beginning. (vincent)

ff7 totally had the best story line. The movie graphics were awsome too! ff8 was good too, except that the whole thing seemed to be based on squall and rinoa. granted, teh fate of the world was in danger, but still....seemed like a love story to me. ff7 was amazing though, the characters were really well developed and i loved the way that you met new characters

MoetheChicken
February 12th, 2005, 05:04 pm
FF8 WAS a love story... I never got really attached to 8 so I didn't play it that much...

The order of the best FF storys is as follows:
1. FFT (Original flavor)
2. FF7
3. FFX
All these games were great! But it's extremely close between FF7 and FFT. I got really attached to FF7; I even cried a little when Aries died... One of the only things I didn't like about FFT was how the characters weren't very in depth... But overall FFT wins.

The award just has to go to 7, mainly due to the fact that 7 took us places no other game had gone before. Think about it: They made a world that succesfully combined the worlds of both fantasy and sci fi. None of the others have done it like 7. Throw in some well developed, kick ass characters and a deep, emotionally envolving story and you have yourself a plotline that will live on for many, MANY years to come. Storywise, X comes in second, because its the only other final fantasy that comes close to accomplishing what 7 did.

No, no... A lot of FFs take place in a Sci fi Fantasy area. Like 10, has swords and big futeristic ships! 8 I saw some swords and giant robots in that too. Of course there really isn't anything bad with that theme... or good. It's nice to see a FF that's all medieval. Like FFT and FF9. That really doesn't matter that much though; just the story!

Khara
February 19th, 2005, 07:23 pm
FFVIII Has the best ever. I mean, you take an emotionally disturbed person fall in love with a pretty girl like Rinoa, and evil people taking over peoples bodies, and BAM. You got a good story line. ^_^

The best storylne IS: Final FAntasy VII ---AND--- Final Fantasy X!!!!!!!!!

FFX almost makes me cry.... so does VII..... fantastic story... ^_^

ff7 is the all time best ff game ever. i havent really played ff9, but what i have played was relitvly good. ff8 lacks any form of depth other than the love conflict between squall and rinoa. ffx is 2 much love mush and not enuf action. ffx-2 just plain sux cuz its all "final fantasy GIRL POWER" ::cringe::
