Ever had the urge to express some of your strange experiences? Post your stories/tales of mysterious happenings here! Or, you can also help by providing valid explanations for mysteries posted here. Please remember to QUOTE the person's story if you are providing an explanation for his/her mystery. Also, if you are providing an explanation, skeptical information (Ghosts, Aliens, etc.) is accepted, but stupid/irrelevant information is not.

*ACCEPTED* - An alien's spaceship caused your crop circle.
*UNACCEPTED* - A tuxedo-wearing, fire-breathing, one-eyed clown caused your crop circle.

I'll start off with my mystery first. Why is it that when I'm alone or the only one awake in my room at night, I will occasionally hear marbles being rolled/bounced on the floor? The sound comes from the ceiling. The weird thing is that the one and only occupant living on top of my room (I live in an apartment) is an old lady, no one else. :mellow: Any explanation? :(

NO NEED TO SOLVE MY MYSTERY TO CONTINUE, YOU CAN POST YOUR OWN MYSTERY TO CONTINUE AFTER ME!

She plays with marbles?
Er, sorry. I mean...the ghost of her dead grandchildren play with marbles?

I have had two interesting things happen to me in life.

The first happened about seven years ago where I walked into my bathroom when everything in my sight flipped upside down. It remained this way until I left the bathroom which then it reverted to normal. This has not happened since then.

The second is ongoing, but there's a very distinct pulse in my bedroom that no one but myself can hear. It never goes away, and it still there when we loose power (thus, it's nothing electrical).

I'll provide another reason/solution to this, since it'll be interesting to get multiple responses for each post.

A logical answer would be rats. We sometimes get rats and possums in our ceiling and the sound they make when running across the ceiling supports is very much like marbles dropping and the 'rolling marble sound' is when they either drag their tail across the wood in the ceiling or start clawing at something. Now you may be thinking "I don't have an attic" because you're in an apartment, but remember there is a gap between your ceiling and her floor. The way we solve this is to just get a broom and hit the section of the ceiling where the sounds are coming from, that generally scares the rats off. However I don't think the old lady above would appreciate that very much:\ So yeah, there's a logical possibility to this.

I can't explain the first one for you since quite frankly all I can think of is a very realistic dream that you just happened to remember quite well. Sorry but I can't provide much more then that :lol:

As for the second one, I too sometimes here a certain pulsation. However, since I get tinnitus and high pressure build up in my ears. With the high pressure build up, it causes the muscles inside and around my ear to constrict and press the bones in my ear closer together. This essentially makes it harder for me to hear outside sources but easier for inside sources. I soon found out that the pulsing noise was actually me hearing my own heartbeat.

Another solution reason could be a nearby road. Some barriers of roads can amplify the sound of cars passing over the road and/or different densities of the road. This can cause a constant pulsing sound. The only thing is there always has to be a car on it.

Me too, except in my kitchen. Mine kind of sounds like one of those heartbeat machines you get in hospitals :S

@Taemond - Thanks for the useful info! ^_^ My mom told me that the sound is caused by Satan himself scheming on top of my room, in another alternate dimension. I guess she is wrong... :P

@HopelessComposer - Haha, HC, the old lady doesn't have any grandchildren who passed away early, in fact, all of her children are leading independent lives already. :) And I doubt she plays with marbles, let alone at night! XD Thanks anyways.

If you studied Physics, remember this diagram? :D Light from the surroundings reflect off from objects and enter your eye. The light image is inverted accordingly first, hits your retina, then the light signal is sent to the brain. The brain will perceive/interpret the signal, thus forming the appropriate image, allowing you to see the object at hand.

In your case, something went wrong with your internal optical lens at that time (Misalignment of the lens, refractive error, etc. I don't know, I'm not a biologist! :P), causing you to see the image vertically upside down as opposed to normal. Your vision returned to normal when your eyes was able to correct the lens. Again, don't ask me how your eyes did so, maybe the water from the bath did something, or seeing yourself in the mirror helped abit by confusing your brain. I don't know, not a biologist here. x_x Yeah, this is the only explanation I can give. Hope this helps! ^_^

This isn't really a mysterious happening but its probably the most mysterious and strange thing that has happened to me that I can't explain.

Sometimes, I get a feeling of deja vu. Ok, so most people get deja vu at one point or another but this is more like an image of deja vu. For example, I was walking in my back paddock (we live on a farm) and I just looked up at one of the grain silo's. Now for some reason, an Image popped into my head, of what I was currently seeing. The grain silo, the lighting condition, my feelings at the time, positioning of the trees (eg the wind direction affecting the trees), plant growth, everything was the same. But the fact that it was an image was what made me wonder most, like I'd already encountered this event and taken a picture of it. Then when I saw it again, I immediately looked at that picture and reminded me of it. Various other instances like this have occurred. Passing certain people in the shopping centre who I've never seen before; looking out a certain window in the classroom and saying something to someone. With all of these specific events, I always get the same thought or response as listed above. So what do you guys think? An exceptionally detailed and full account of deja vu; or something else?

P.S. (just finished watching Darker Than Black Ryuusei no Gemini so the whole memory of the future thing keeps popping into my head...............so much for being a logical person :\)

I saw a ghost walk by my room once. He was an old dude, and had a mighty white beard. I was awake, and it was plain as day. I was like ten though, so I'm willing to chalk it up to me being a stupid little kid till I see another ghost, lulz.

Uh, yeah. That's called Deja vu. Everyone gets it, as you said before explaining exactly what it was to all of us anyway. =P
Er, sorry. I mean "you're psychic and can see the future/you're a sleeping god who has already lived out the entirety of this universe an infinite number of times. Soon your full power will awaken and everything will be clear to you."

...Or your brain is fucking up while trying to create new memories, like everybody else's does, resulting in deja vu. Real life is so boring. ;___;

You're crazy/you might have some kind of brain hemorrhaging going on, which would explain the strange "noise" you're hearing. All the extra blood in your head is flooding to your ears, and screwing with your hearing. Seek medical attention!

That's your fridge.

SOS団, RI CHAPTER strikes again! Bring us more mysteries to cynically dismiss and make fun of! Bwahahahah!!~! I mean....bring us more mysteries to solve for you!

Ahahaha, real life sucks, doesn't it...

@M's:

It could have just been a psychological response to some sort of happening in the air; as cryskolt said, your eye may have failed to properly flip the image up again before it went into your brain.. by the time your brain reacted to the inconsistency, you probably already walked out of the bathroom... adding on to that, maybe it was upside down before you went into the bathroom, and since hallways' ceilings and floors don't have much structural difference, you didn't realize it (remember it) until you went into the bathroom where the floor had objects different from the ceiling.. then your eye flipped them right again sometime after you left the bathroom, thus explaining the abrubtness of it...

...and the noise might just be something vibrating in your ear; I sleep on my side, and so my ear can sense minute vibrations in my pillow, which amplifies the noise, leading me to think something weird is happening... but assuming it doesn't happen just when you're sleeping, then... something might just be stuck in your ear :/
