Assuming you play piano and have no knowledge in basic theory...

Play scales and chords; get the feel for it first. Learn how to read sheet music if you can't.

To start you off, Play simple nursery songs (C major most likely). After you're comfortable with this, try playing in different keys. Learn what the different key signatures are. This is pretty much the basics. Don't thrust yourself into anime and game music just yet as the "easy" ones tend to be harder than nursery songs.

This is very effective! Try this.. When I started learning piano, I remember, I played a nursery song also..

Get a book written by Czerny for beginners... (dont remember the opus number... it had 100 exercises) complete it... then once your fingers feel comfortable then you can play a lot of songs from anime/games (I presume you know how to read scores...)
