I'm a huge fan of StormDrum. What's the inspiration for this? I really feel the piece as it plays out.

Push Forward is great too, I'm just a bit more partial to the other.

"Storm Drum" most definitely sounds like a James Horner score.

So does "Push Forward." I think I'm partial to the latter.

Honestly, when I heard the beginning of StormDrum I was hoping for something a bit more electronic in nature (it actually reminded me of parts of the score for Angels and Demons, which I really like), but I was a little disappointed when it turned out to be a little more cliche (which is not to say that Hans Zimmer's score doesn't have its cliche moments...). For me, it detracted a little from the intensity.

The second one is kind of more like James Newton Howard with some elements of Zimmer (percussion) and Howard Shore (the melody, which is definitely reminiscent of LotR). OK, and I guess now that I put all of those elements together, it reminds me of James Horner, too...haha. I think if you went somewhere harmonically with it, then it would feel more like a "push forward". Right now it feels a little static. Maybe if you did something like modulate up a half step half way through or something like that it would build the intensity more?

First of all, thanks for the comments guys.As for inspiration for StormDrum? Quite honestly I just started writing. I played with some chords, got an overall mood, and really arranged it around that. As for the overly polite comparisons to guys like Hans Zimmer, James Horner, and Howard Shore etc, I appreciate it.

DeathRaider, again thanks for the fine compliments to the above and others mentioned. StormDrum does seem to give off that "electronic" vibe because of the first 10 or so seconds. I wanted to try and arrange this piece with both electronic new age sounds and a 'western' orchestra.

Push Forward, does tend to sit around the same chord structure throughout the piece and well, probably could have used more development. It is quite static; I agree. I've posted another track called Faraway which is much more minimal to say the least compared to the other two. Hopefully, it evokes the just as much if not, more emotion than the previous 2.

Basically, you're destined to be a high-volume film composer.

Your pieces are good and your influences are obvious. That's fine however if you're going to be diving into western film scoring you need to remember something important which is that you're not Hans Zimmer, you're not James Horner nor are you Howard Shore. You will need to make sure you find your own individual voice, even in such a tightly monitored style such as film scoring.

I liked faraway. Being that simplistic works well with that mood.

i kinda wanted to hear a trembling violin at the end. i think that might have been quite nice along with the piano. don't get offended or anything... but i can picture this song playing in the background as the camera follows the activities of all the main doctors in the show "house" as it's ending. can't you? hahaha. that's so awesome.

Thanks for the continuing responses. This next piece is called End of the Road. I had really bad writers block for this track so it's definitely not one of my better ones in my own opinion. The second part is more of a cue than any real development with the first part.

Thanks for the continuing responses. This next piece is called End of the Road. I had really bad writer's block with this one so I'm not all that impressed with it. The second part is more of a cue than any real development with the first part.

NOTE: I posted the same reply earlier but gave a link to all of my tracks on mysoundclick.com. Disregard that Mods if you read this.
