I just got the November issue of Newtype USA and I was hugely dissapointed with the list they made of the "top 25 anime of all time".

I can't believe DBZ and Sailor Moon was even on the list. Evangelion #1? wtf? Inuyasha #3??
They didn't even mention alot of good ones like Haibane Renmei and Grave of the Fireflies.

This list could be on sales alone. Alot of these have done really well and become mainstream anime. All of these on the list all look licensed to me so... :think:

...it could be based off how much the anime has made. With Gainax and Evangelion it doesnt' suprise me if it got #1 of sales. Come on, three variations of the one series? Talk about milking the cow :nosebleed:

Anyways... You can tell that a magazine called anything USA that only took a poll of 11,700 people to make this list won't have much credibility, right?

That's what annoys me about Newtype sometimes, they never say anything bad about crappy animes. I wish there was a magazine that exposed bad animes for what they are: trash. I mean...Sailor Moon?! That's for like, 7 year olds. -_-

Yeah, they didn't even mention stuff like .hack//sign, Gravitation, Haibane Renmei, and ones like that. alot of the ones that were picked were for either ignorant teens or little kids. (DBZ, Sailor Moon, etc). And personally, I know a ton who think Evangalion isn't that great (myself included). Same goes for Inuyasha, it's pretty repetitive and long. It's like they're milking all they can out of it. Inuyasha and Evangalion add in a little bit or religious factor to make it look "cool". Religious tones only work in a small amount of animes, really, like Haibane Renmei. (Can you tell I love Haibane Renmei? lol)

look at this NEW cool anime, i wanted to have Gunbuster in that list and some more classics

Come on, people ignored me. This list is probably only how popular they are in the US OR are based on DVD sales.

Everyone here is taking this way out of context. What Newtype says doesn't matter. Where is my favourite Anime? It's not even on their. Why is Sailor Moon on there? Because it got a large Western following.

I'm surprised DBZ is so low in sales... it was probably #1 two or three years back

even more proof that high sales doesn't mean quality

that list looks like a mix up of popularity and quality =_=

no truly quality anime is at the top, neither are the truly popular ones..

I can safely say without a doubt, Evangelion is most popular here on DVD. Why buy DBZ if you can watch it three times a day?

DBZ has never had good DVD sales over here. Other branches of merchandise on the other hand...

I think that this shows how ignorant people are of anime. when I show peole pictures of my drawings (from x, dnangel, or even my own originals) they think without a doubt, "Sailor Moon" or "DBZ" It just sickens me. Stupid bigwigs who think they know everything. They havn&#39;t seen the true side of anime. They will one day, they will one day. <_< (I do like some of them too, don&#39;t get me wrong)

I think it&#39;s based on ratings and sales like everyone&#39;s said. The anime on the list are either highly popular for DVDs and/or they&#39;re show on channels that are watched a lot.

Yeah, I hate that. I like to draw sometimes, and my mom seems to think anime is like cartoons. I blame it on DBZ ads with those action figures and being like "Save the world from evil Vegeta&#33;&#33; GRRR&#33;&#33;" Most -real- anime is more intelligent that about half the TV shows on NBC, ABC, and CBS. I mean, which is more intelligent, Haibane Renmei or The Bachleor? -_- easy choice, right? The Grave of Fireflies or Survivor? Alot of anime is more realistic than "reality shows". How often do guys get to choose between like, 10 models? How often do YOU get stranded on a island and have to do challenges not to get voted off? Then do it with Haibane Renmei, how often do you feel out of place? Grave of Fireflies: Have you ever had to suffer? Have you been given a raw deal in life?
