It's the same source and artist group. For a long time, KEY studios has used Kyoto Animation (KyoAni) for porting the visual novels to anime. They originally chose Toei Studios (DBZ, One Piece) for their first port, which resulted in a decent production. They then experimented with KyoAni after reviewing their animation of Munto for their newest port Air TV. This resulted in a very high user score. In contrast, they did the Air Movie with Toei animation which met with mediocre results.

So after that, KyoAni became their studio for a while, doing the Kanon Remake, Clannad and Clannad AS. Then KyoAni became more focused on Suzumiya Haruhi, K-On, and others -- spread out a bit too wide -- making their style change drastically. KEY didn't like this so much, as their style and the old KyoAni were similar. Thus, they experimented with their newest work. Angel Beats was directed to P.A Works (Kara no Kyokai, True Tears, Canaan). This resulted in a slighly different artstyle, along with some poor Quality Assurance, but their style closely matched KEY's again.

I'm a bit interested to see where KEY goes for their next production (because it will be, of course, Little Busters - Unconfirmed)

Um... That's how you can tell it was made by KEY? That's kind of funny. (In a GOOD way.) I wanted to watch Kanon 2006 really badly, but I can't really find any subs. And when I do, my computer screw me up as I'm watching it. TT;;

Haven't anyone noticed that KEY and those other company that works with it always seem to have really sad stories in every anime they make? Examples would be Clannad, Angel Beats!, and AIR (TV). So... What are they trying to do? Make the audiance cry? I always wondered about that...
