Yo

So I'm trying to learn how to read the music for a piano.

What is the BIG "C" in the middle of the staff (All the way on the left next to the fancy squiggly and the #) ?

What are those things that look like 7s with a lil xtra baggage at the left end of the 7 ?

The big C stands for common time or 4/4 time. This means there are four beats in a measure and a beat is one fourth of the total measure's time (simply, quarter note gets the beat).

I believe the 7s you're seeing are eighth rests. They represent silence for 1/8th of a beat's duration.

This link (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Music_Theory/Fundamentals_of_Common_Practice_Music/Notation) will assist you in explaining the basics of reading music very rapidly. There are also several other resources that may help you get started in understanding music theory.

Thanks, that helped a bit.
Although it didn't explain the BIG C nor the 7s as well as you did though

it all depends on if u know basic music theory like what 4/4 if u dont u can always just learn how i did. i learn how to read the the music sheet just knowing where middle c is and then and knowing that it goes a,b,c,d,e,f,g and repeats and then just learning what major and minor are on the music sheet then for the tempo i would just listen to the song and go off that. i still dont worry about the measure's and 4/4 times stuff. but it all depends on if u like learning the theory hehe i dont i just love to play

That's exactly how I'm learning it !
I just figure out what the note is, memorize it, then get the timing/rythm right
