[Here goes nothing.]

So, I'm very happy to make my debut here. I'm very much an aspiring composer who more often than not dabbles in the arrangement of video game music. Skipping over the various amounts of fluff I could I add about myself, I'm brought to the present stuff.

The first thing I'll put up here is an arrangement (well, the beginning of it) for the trailer music from Zelda: Twilight Princess for Wind Quintet. I know it can be a lot better and some parts don't fit their instruments so much. But, that's why I'm here. So, lovely people, give me your best. Maybe.
(Oh yes, mind the long space and flute diddly at the end-- I was too lazy to edit them out. You are all sophisticated enough of people to simply press stop before the end if such sloppiness annoys you.)

I like what I hear. I am a big Zelda fan, aside from being a musician. I would love to go over what you have thus far, however, a pdf score would be very helpful.

And welcome! :)

I would love to attach a pdf score for this; however I only have the lowly version of Finale Allegro 2005 and I do not believe I can make a PDF easily (but it can be done). Would simply attaching the .MUS file work for you?

(I did not try very hard to convert it. Silly me. I will attach the file to the first post.)

Thanks for being listening to the work (thus far) and being such a hospitable gentleman/lady.

It's been a while, but I have something new. I have yet to finish the first Zelda arrangement, but I managed to complete a separate one. The over world theme.

My notes on it:
The clarinet part is supposed to be saxophone.
There are a lot of articulations that I need to put in still, as well as fixing the dynamic range
The violin part has markings, just not in the score. I'll fix that. Maybe. Soon.
All other remarks about the blech of this would be appreciated so they can be soon remedied.

I would say your arrangement is above average. It sticks pretty much to the original title, but there are many arrangements of Zelda's Over World Theme. I think stepping outside of the original structure of the Over World Theme and exploring new textures could move this arrangement to the next level.

A couple things I'd look out for. One, though high C is perfectly in the range of the Bb Trumpet, I would advise against going that high in that register. The same goes for the high G's in the F Horn. Also in your violin part around measure 19 remember to indicate whether those octaves are to be double bowed (if there is a possible bowing for that) or to be played in divisi. Watch your key. String players are not too fond of keys with flats especially when it has alot of flats! Watch your spellings of notes. Though they may be enharmonic, there is a correct and less correct way to notate it depending on the scale used.

Keep it up! ;)

Thanks for the awesome feedback. I know Bb minor is a beast for string players, but I was being lazy and "forgot" that transposition from the original key was possible. Also to the fingered octaves in the string part-- I forgot to remove that. I put that in as courtesy cue notes to the person who had to sight read it later. And yes, it would be possible to play the octaves like that, I just would not be the friend of any string players for a good while. My laziness also applies to not checking on the chord spelling. I may or may not fix that.

Range wise, I had college level musicians at hand, so I kind of took advantage of that a bit. I agree with you though. It isn't accessible playing wise to some, and it is a bit exhausting to play, especially if it isn't at tempo.

Hm, I think that's enough of a response...

But yes, I should not stick to the straight dope arrangements so much, as addictive as they are. Branching out it good.

As a trumpet player, above the top c is where things get tricky

orchestrally, top E's can sound nice, but it depends on the player and the tempo

I'm probably perhaps going to eventually, sometime soon, when I have time work on thinning out the orchestration and make the trumpet part more chop friendly. Maybe. Otherwise, thanks for the advice. Yeah. That's a reply.

Any votes on me putting my WIP Escaflowne Dance of Cure (Again, it's a straight arrangement, but I'm using it as an Aural exercise) for your lovely eyes to scrutinize?

Go ahead. Escaflowne's soundtrack is an enjoyment.

Annd, I'm back. So, since mentioning this, I haven't done much anything with this, so it kind of patters off at the end, where the orchestra takes over in the fitful rhythmic hate section. Ah... so much to work on. And, do mind the jenk instrument list order. It isn't being nice to me in rearranging itself.

I like it. It reminds me of Carmina Burana. Is there a text that goes along with the choir parts? I can't wait to hear more of this.
