Well, I have been also working on this, so bare with me as it takes time to do this by ear.... <_<

But this is what I got so far!

Oh man, it is a wonderful game that came out on the Sega Saturn and was ported to the PSX since it was such a great RPG. It was a great recovery game from a bad experience with Final Fantasy 8 which, in my eyes, was mediocre at best.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I thought I'd ask: Are you still working on this?

I actually tried transcribing a short section the other day, only 8 measures (about 16 seconds), but I kinda fudged here and there, since I don't know orchestral timbres very well.

Here's the start of the section (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfsFZsPiw3M&#t=1m14s) I transcribed. And I've attached my midi and mp3 here: (Edit: nevermind, removed)

You're free to include it in your transcription if it saves you time. I might even be able to collaborate on it with you, if you want. I could probably tackle the bass and drums at least, and maybe the guitar and some of the piano. And you could handle the orchestral instruments, since you seem to have a better handle on those than me. =)

Yes, I have been working on it till I picked up Brothers from Full Metal Alchemist that was a request. When I finish that I intended to do Grandia Main theme and finish it since I am about 30 measure into it complete. I was considering taking out the guitar solo or replacing it with saxophone since the standard orchestra will not have a guitar on hand, but I would consider making an optional guitar part to it.

If you want, you are welcome to write out the drum set part but I am going to most likely tackle the auxilary percussion part anyway. It takes a lot of time to figure out, audibly, a drum pattern at times so you are welcome to it.

I arrange by ear so I really don't find a use for midis unless the game music is, in fact, midi itself.

I am glad someone has taken an interest in Grandia music and when I finish Brothers I will tackle this project probably in mid to late February.

Oops, my mistake. I should have reflected on the thread title more carefully.

I somehow had it in my head that you were going to transcribe every part, but if I'm understanding you correctly, you're actually going to arrange it so that you only use instruments from the standard orchestra, and not electric stuff. In that case, nevermind about what I said about helping (since I offered to transcribe the non-orchestral instruments). But I'll still look forward to your orchestral arrangement once it's done.

Well, everything in the piece is standard orchestra, even the drum set is a common place in an orchestra, or a pops orchestra. The electric bass and the electric guitar are the only things I am subbing in different instruments for. The one real guitar solo that is not being doubled in other parts is either going to be cut or is going to be arranged for a different instrument. The tuba can fill in for the electric bass parts. Other then that I am stick to the original score!
