The way I learned is by subdividing.
That is, I'd play a scale slowly in two octaves at the same time (the lower octave on the left hand, and the higher on the right) with both hands in sync. I would then gradually pick up speed until I could play the scale with both hands at what I felt was quick. I then took the same idea, only with the left hand I went down the scale, and with the right hand I went up the scale at the same time. Then I did the same thing playing 3rds.
After doing those two, I started to play slowly two notes with the right hand for every one note on the left hand. You'll end up playing the scale twice with the right hand. I gradually picked up speed with this. Similarly I did the same with the left hand playing two notes for every left hand note. Then feel free to vary the number of notes on one hand for every note on the other, starting slowly and then picking up speed.
After this, you should have enough coordination to start playing with both hands at a beginner's level. The rest comes with practice and experience from playing songs, and learning how to read a grand staff effectively.

Do what he said, especially if your teacher hasn't taught you that quite yet.

My teachers actually had me playing songs one hand at a time. Then after doing that well, playing them together. I find it does help one make sense of individual rhythms, but perhaps more importantly builds some muscle memory.

For me, I learned how to play with two hands by playing each hand seperately first. What I mean is, practice with your right hand, then your left hand. Once you're comfortable with learning them, go slowly, but use both hands one measure at a time. This works, especially since timing is a huge issue with two hands playing at the same time. Take it easy (unless you practice like 4-5 hours straight a day) and you should be able to make it. Good luck! :)

This is something I really wanted to learn. I am a lefty, but always felt comfortable playing with my right hand only. After trying to learn a couple songs from RPG's (Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, Eternal Sonata etc.) I started to practice with just my left hand. I'm still a beginner at it, but try to keep practicing every now and then. I guess I'll try and do what M said, slowly practicing like that. Then one day, I'll actually try to learn to read sheet music for piano, which I know isn't complicated (at least what most people tell me) but I just can't get the hang of it

i started by practicing one hand at a time, then combining them. after a while, as you advance in music, you can play more and more stuff just sightreading with both hands. you will never get better without practice. lots of practice.

i learnt by playing around on the piano, i'd just work out a rhythm and figure out notes that went well together (i was six, so i had a lot of time)
