Was watching a sappy emotional Tokyo Gas ad (brought a tear to my eye), was wondering if anyone knew what the piano piece playing in the background was? Thanks in advance for anyone who knows! =]

I can't, but I'd like to know, too. It's very pretty.
And the commercial got me too, right at the end. X'3

I'm buying all my gas from Tokyo Gas from now on. ~___~

High chances are that the music was from a music library or composed for the Ad and would be just available in the composer's website (If any) or the company's website.

Try to search harder and read all the youtube's comments, maybe you will find something that hint you to the right path or will reveal what is the piece.

I hope you find it!

Wow.

I don't speak Japanese, and I found it quite funny that this was a gasoline commercial, but I just had to say this was quite the amazing little story!

Yoko Kanno, from what I gather. Apparently she does a lot CM bgm. Song have a name? Don't know.

Check out this song she made for another CM, 「While eating your bento」: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVBADRGB34o
"When I'm eating, I'm not alone." Most heartfelt lunch ever.

...
Looking it up a little, I think the song was made for the CM (an original). If you wanna look it up, try going by the CM's name: お父さんのチャーハン Father's Fried Rice. Something like that.

*Gasp* Yoko Kanno? I really like her work! Well...I've only listened to her anime stuff till now...but yeah, thanks for the hint, I'll try and do some more digging. ● ‿ ●

Edit: Hm...after some deeper digging in Google, I suspect that (retail) sheet music does not exist for this piece. With my very limited knowledge of Japanese, searches for 菅野 よう子 楽譜 (Yoko Kanno Sheet Music) result in various publications of Yoko Kanno's anime pieces, but a search for お父さんのチャーハン 菅野 よう子 楽譜 (Dad's fried rice Yoko Kanno Sheet Music) reveals a few video links and a couple of info pages, telling me the same stuff as Snomits did. Sad. =[

Well, I inverted the phases to knock out most of the vocals and other sound effects...and also taking out a heap of sound quality as collateral damage. If anyone is interested in transcribing, or just listening to the piece by itself, I've attached it as an MP3. Just note, it sounds pretty bad with lots of artefacts here and there.

It sounds fairly easy. Maybe you could consider trying to transcribe it yourself?

But, yeah if you do center-channel removal, it makes it all mono and junk. Not really something enjoyable to listen to, in my opinion. =P

I'm considering it. But I'm pretty rusty with my piano, only recently started playing on a regular basis after many years. Any hints or links for a noob on transcription?

Open it up in audacity or a similar program and slow it down (tempo -50% or maybe even -75% if necessary). You already did center removal, so that at least lets you hear the part with less interference from the voices and sound-effects in the commercial. Try taking it one measure at a time. Like, select a section and then just loop it so you can hear it repeatedly. Once you have one section done, move on to the next.

And I'm sure plenty of people will be glad to help you check for errors, if you're worried about that.

Yoko Kanno wrote it?! No wonder it's so pretty. =)
If you do transcribe it, post the sheets! =D
