First off, I didn't know whether to start a new thread or not for my compositions since I thought it would be an act of redundancy and in bad taste of the forums, but I didn't want to double post in my other thread yet I did not feel it necessary to edit something that will not be seen. And since the rules didn't include info about starting multiple threads... plus, my other thread was solely for one composition rather than many...

Well, anyway, if it is in fact alright this will be my thread for my compositions. I would like to start off by posting a short 'arrangement' I did of the melody of Sonoran Desert Holiday, as I think it really represents what I am currently capable of.

And one last thing. In case anyone is wondering, I use Musescore for my compositions.

Just for future reference, double posting is usually not frowned upon if your last post is days or more old (at least that has been my experience). From now on, it would probably be best if you kept all of your compositions on this thread.

As for your arrangement, I like that it is significantly different from the original, and has a different feel, but is still recognizable. What exactly were your goals for making the arrangement your own when you set out to create the arrangement?

One of my goals was to implement certain melodies which I had created over a period of time, such as the ostinato for the vibes... which was supposed to be for marimba, but midi doesn't portray the sound of the marimba correctly and instead gives it an abrupt quality (in my opinion, it should sound like what the vibes currently sound like).

Another goal was to use the symphony-like sound which is created from the 'Violins' and blend it throughout to carry the melody, which is a technique I sort of got from the midi sequences of Sim City 2000.

I liked the counterpoint. The ending sounded a touch cheesy.

Equisix, while it is a nice thought to do that for people, there's really no point if you don't make sure it sounds good. First of all, what is up with the solo violin in that mp3? It sounds terrible. I know my Garritan solo violin does not sound like that, so you should probably look into that. Also, you should probably be more aware of your mix in terms of the balance between instruments; the dulcimer and marimba can't be heard over the strings.

Edit: Also, after listening again, rkcat77, I think you need to introduce a bass element and lengthen the piece out. Right now it feels very two-dimensional. Your score order also seems a little bit strange, now that I think about it...

I have to agree about the bass. The left hand of the piano is doing nothing, that can have the bass or use a cello. The "Violins 2" are meant to be 2 violins or a pad? Something that would make the piece more interesting is if you pass the English's horn melody to another instruments instead of playing the whole melody through the whole piece.

I was only following the sheet music
There are two violin solos and a violin section

So, perhaps something like this as a start?

I like how the last one is arranged. Kind of makes me think of electronic music. Also for some reasons it makes me think of the sky, lol. I am liking that as a start of the piece. xP

Yeah, so the left hand of the piano is still not doing anything. =P

And... the bass is kind of boring. Maybe you should throw in an occasional fifth or something to spice it up?

Maybe use this as an example: 13526

If you tried something similar to that, I think it would spice up the boring parts a bit.

I realize there are solo violins in the score; I was just saying that your solo violins in the mp3 sounded really bad for some reason.

Is it any better?

Yes, although the softsynth dulcimer sounds really awful. XD I don't think you can fix that, though.

Well, I've taken an extended... hiatus from the Sonoran composition.

So, what I would like to share next is the intro to a symphony I've been working on. And by that I mean... all I have done is this intro. Therefore, it is only a 40 second clip and it ends just as the piece starts to get going.

This makes me think of the sky too, lol. It sounds close to the first piece you posted.

It does?

I suppose that's just my style then, I guess. :P

Edit: I've updated the file to include six more measures.

I apologize for double posting, but here is something else I've started.

I imagine a strong feeling out of this piece. I demand more! haha. What are you planning on doing to it?

I was thinking of expanding on it, but I'm not sure how... :P

I'm deeply sorry to keep posting little unfinished snippets, but here's an unfinished jazz piece I've been working on.

The rhythm is cool, but you desperately need more melodic and harmonic variation.

Haha. That's all I usually ever get is unfinished compositions. You're not the only one. ;)

I have to agree with Alfonso on this one. One thing I also noticed is that adding more notes of a chord doesn't make it sound better. I'm looing at the second piano around measure 18.

I've somehow managed to create a duet piano piece, which is meant to represent the season of Winter.

Please excuse the double post.

I made another piano piece titled Holiday, which sort of throws several different melodies together. I created an mp3 by saving it in Musescore as .ogg and converting it.
