I did a quick search but I don't really see a dedicated general thread for musicals. But yeah, there's something about music being brought to life that makes the experience awesome.

My all-time favourite has to be The Sound of Music. What's yours?

Hmmm.....I really love the Sound of Music. But I also love Fiddler on the Roof, Singing in the Rain, Rent, Wicked, Into the Woods, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Godspell.

I can't decide!

"Little shop of Horror" has a giant plant. It's amazing. Enough said.

I love that one too!

Now I have the ending song stuck in my head.....

Also, I like South Pacific and Seussical quite a bit, as well as Cats.

I like Andrew Lloyd Webber too, if only for the Phantom of the Opera. Xp I haven't seen Cats yet.

Anybody see the sequel for Phantom? I read up on the plot summary, but it doesn't sound too interesting.

I really don't like musicals... exceptions being Sweeney Todd, Avenue Q and The Nightmare before Christmas.

I didn't have an opinion on Andrew Lloyd Webber until he got involved with those 'X-Factor for musicals' shows. Then I hated him (Y)

Brigadoon

I remember watching that as a child and enjoying it. Singin' in the rain too.

Don't know what I'd think now. I remember Brigadoon very clearly but not the music. Singin' in the rain is the other way around, I remember the music but not the story. Music aside, Gene Kelly was a bloody good dancer.

I've only see the movie version of Sweeney Todd. Although I can appreciate that everything was well done, I'm not a fan.

Scrubs - My Musical episode (Everything Comes Down to Poo and Guy Love are awesome)
The Nightmare Before Christmas - all the songs are great
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - I grew up with the original movie, don't like the remake
Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog - funny and light hearted
Crazy For You - But Not For Me is a classic

Andrew Lloyd Webber - I grew up listening to many songs from his musicals, but there are only a handful that I'll still listen to on occasion

I was raised in a family who's careers and interests were in musicals. Therefore, I've seen my fair share.
I love Wicked, Les Mis and Phantom, and I won't admit to liking many others, because I want people to think that I only listen to 'classical' music. :P
Edit: oh, I want to the opening night of Love Never Dies (the Phantom sequel). It was pretty good. Not as good as Phantom, but no where near Andrew Lloyd Webber's worst.

How is it that none of you have once mentioned Grease?! It's been the #1 rated musical since about the 1980's!

Grease is annoying in my opinion. My preference is to watch a musical that doesn't so blatantly fit into the stereotyped canon of musicals, aka camp and ultra big smiles. That, and it's set in an era that West Side Story (my favorite musical) is set in, but taking away all the dramatic weight.

So yeah, West Side Story is my number one musical. I've seen Wicked on stage which I had low expectations of but was actually really great. Anything Fosse choreographed is wonderful too, particularly Pippin.
