I guess we can start a thread about the disease, Hepatitis.

Anyhow, I have this question and it's been bugging me a heck lot ever since I heard this from my mom.

Okay, so a year ago, my mom and I were talking about her health. She told me that she has Hepatitis B and it wasn't "active" (thank god.) So just a couple of months ago, my mom told me that her Hepatitis B is now "active."

Getting to the main point, I was wondering if I have Hepatitis B? I mean, my mom has Hepatitis B from her dad (who was a drunk dude that hanged around in bars and passed away before my mom came to the USA). She told me that when I was born, the doctors had to quickly give me the Hepatitis B shots or something like that. I know that I'm immune to it, but... you'll never know if it's still there. It can still be possible that you're infected without any symptoms. (Scary) Just wondering about it... And I do visit the doctors, but they didn't say anything about it.

To be honest with you I have no idea how hepatitis work. I only heard of it when a bunch of guys are joking about having one when exchanging a certain thing to get high... But to the point... I don't know what it does or what it is...

It's a class of virus that affects the liver differently, but that's what Hepatitis mainly attacks. The liver. Hep C is considered the most severe case because it has no vaccine for it. All hepatitis type can lead to scarring the liver in which can lead to cancer or liver failure. Cirrhosis is caused by Hep B,C. Which is basically scar tissue regenerating, minimizing the ability of the liver to function correctly. Hepatitis D has the highest mortality rating compared to other Hepatitis types.

Once you had your Hep B vaccine shots, you can't get infected by it. At least that's what the doctors have said and I believe there hasn't been a case where a person got infected with Hep B even after getting their Hep B shots. I wish the best of luck for your mom. Hopefully it isn't too serious.

^Thanks and I too hope she'll be fine. She told me that the doctor said if she gets too much stress, it can be fatal. O_O

Heard this from another website, but most people that seems to get Hepatits whatever seems to be Asians. (For your infomation, I am Vietnamese/Chinese and my mom is Vietnamese) Er... Is that depending on how well their medical program is in Asia? (Not be racist, of course)

According to an article that I read, there's no treatment can clear the virus from the body. However, it is advisable to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Treatment for Hepatitis B (http://www.HaskelLaw.com) does not cure the illness but works to delay or prevent complications from developing. It's always important to have a regular check up.
