Hello and good day to you.

I'm Cyren and I'm obviously new to this site. I stumbled upon it and have been very impressed! I am a new piano student. I have barely been playing for a few months and have yet to get very well good. I cannot play a real song yet but I will practice until I can.

I decided at the first of the year that I was tired of envying those that could play the piano and decided that I would start as a New Year's resolution. As a gift I received a 76 Key portable grand piano keyboard, and I adore it. I started lessons right away! I had lessons once a week for only half an hour since then. We moved at a relatively slow pace and have made it half way through my first lesson book.

Sadly, due to life situations. Last night (Tuesday the 26th) was my final lesson. I am greatly saddened by this, but will use it as motivation. For if I receive positive news next month I will be back in lessons before my instructor has time to miss me!

I am a retail manager and learning the piano has been a great distraction from the harshness that comes with lashing customers on a daily bases. Until I can receive proper lessons again I will continue to practice on my own. And hopefully when I can participate in lessons again I will impress my instructor. My current difficulty with the piano is I have a very difficult time reading both the treble cleft and the base cleft at the same time. Any tips or advice on the learning the piano would be glorious!

welcome! Hope you stick around. Feel free to ask any questions.

It's nice to know music is making a difference (even little ones) in your life. Motivation, patience, and love for the piano is really all it takes to succeed in it. ^-^

Thank you! I have always loved music and never before had the opportunity to learn myself. It's making a great difference when it comes to stress in my life. Other than learning the notes a big issue I'm having is the metronome. I'm not new to music, I've played the clarinet briefly a long time ago and I was a part of the color guard with the marching band in high school. But when I try and play with the metronome to get my pace where it needs to be, it just distracts me so much. Any tips?

Learn to play it without the metronome first. And then once you've learned the whole thing, use the metronome to learn to play it in tempo.

If you're trying to learn it in tempo from the beginning, you could have trouble unless you're an experienced sight-reader.

And welcome to the forums. =)
