Hello,

I would like to know if someone here can recommend me a very cheap keyboard (Under 30 dollars)(Used or new). I am going to be traveling and I want a keyboard to compose music. I want it to be at least 2 octaves. The sound can be very crappy, but not so distorted, and the keyboard must be very slim. I need it to be able to play at least 4 notes at the same time and chromatic.

Edit:

Preferable one with a power adapter.

Try Toys R Us. I'm pretty sure there are baby toy keyboards that sounds like a celesta that spans 2 octaves or so there. I think they are around 10-15 bucks.:heh:

I checked Toys R Us' website and I could not find a Keyboard with adapter. :(

I was interested in the Barbie Keyboard, but that one does not have info:

Are you going to be plugging it into a laptop via USB? If so, I would recommend this (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Akai-Professional-MPK-Mini-Laptop-Production-Keyboard-106224769-i1629984.gc) one. While it is $99, this is the best one you will find for such a good price! I personally use this for when I'm travelling and at school, and it is perfect for composing. It has 3 octaves, drum pads with 2 banks, mixers, arpeggiator and an octave up/down button. As for the size, it's about the size of a very small textbook. If you do buy it from this site though, sign up for their mailing list. They email a crap load of coupons out every week...I get like 2 or 3. :P

If that won't work for you though, you could always try one of those roll-up pianos. I used to have the sharper image one, and it worked good. And from what I remember, it did come with a power cord and I believe it was 61 or 41 keys. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvfN2OJ9F9I&feature=related) might also be a good option, but it's bound to piss people off. XD

Why buy a toy keyboard when you can just use any decent music software installed on a laptop? That is, unless you need to feel the instrument in order to compose. Just a thought. :)

Thanks for your replies. I don't have a laptop and I don't have money for something over 30 dollars. In my free time I will be staying in places without a computer, so I want something to use to write music down.

The melodica looks like a great option. I will look for it when I get in the US since I am leaving soon. Thanks for share that instrument, Zippy.

I got a laptop to use! (Not mine) Now I would be able to get a mini midi keyboard, but my budget for this is still under 30 dollars, lol. The melodica could be a good solution, however, I may annoy people here with its sound, in special late at night.

Yeah, the korg nano key is probably gonna be your only option for under 30 bucks. If you sign up for guitar center's email list, you can probably get a good coupon to save on the whole set of them. :D
