Hey guys and gals!

So I was thinking we were about due for another composition contest. One problem that we seem to be getting is that people don't have the time to work on full blown-out pieces and therefore, cannot join in the contest fun. So here's what's up. This contest is going to be much more light harded than ones in the past and I encourage everyone to join in on the fun!

Your mission, if you choose to accept it (you should), is to create a composition in common time, at a moderate tempo (about 101 to 110 beats per minute), that is at the most 32 measures long. You may use any instrumentation and any style as you see fit. It is recommended that the composition be written in one sitting. Remember, this is just a fun exercise.

The winner will be descided through forum poll, with the most popular vote being the winner. Members will also be encouraged to comment on other's entries as this is a fun composition exercise.

The contest starts now and will end July 15, 2011 at 11:59pm EST.

Let's have some fun!

I'm perhaps taking a risk by composing in this style (which I haven't done for a while), but here goes. :) Those of you who heard my Childsplay might recognize the "sound."

I think I'll enter, as my exams finish next week... I normally do long pieces... should be fun.

I might do this. I should be able to since it ends in a month.

I can't find a way to improve the midi, so this is what I'm left with...
It's for two vibraphones and piano. It's 32 bars, and is crotchet=104.
the piece takes a while to really get started, but hope you enjoy it :D
:flower:
Edit: on some computers, I found that it doesn't play the last note, so I've corrected that by adding a very quiet note a little after the end. Unless you're listening to it particularly loud, you shouldn't be able to hear it :)

So we can use as many instruments as we like, or just one?

@Porshe- Your composition is my favorite so far :)

I thought this was a brilliant idea. It's simple and friendly. Here's mine. I was hoping for a masterpiece, but <_<...

 Anyways... It's two minutes long, cause it's looped. Enjoy

I reckon that Porsche (correct abbreviation?) is going to win. Amazing piece. Lovely and filmic. Still, lots of time for more people to enter.

Well...
It was really a challenge for me (as for many of us, certainly), because I need time to come back to my composition : hear if what I did a few days ago sounds well. Also, the constraint about the measures don't give me the opportunity to develop the music and the instruments as I wished.
Whatever, I'm not complaining because that's the rules and the game, and I want to be in (), so here's my participation. Hope you'll enjoy :)

Just a few words to present it (as it's my first composition for ichigo's) : I have thought this piece as a key time for a game, a movie: revelations are coming, the story is gave, the player/viewer has explanations about questions he have from the beginning : I have thought the piece as an accompaniment, an ambience, with a strong melodic theme (even if it's more improvisation ).

Your title was loss... but it wasn't particularly sad or regretful. Also, there weren't a lot of harmonies. Many of the notes did not sound right played together. It sort of sounded like you found a few different melodies and then slammed them together. Next time work on getting your harmonies right and having a more comprehensible melody.

That's mine, I did it in about a little over an hour so it's not that great but I'm happy with it. It may be a little short but I didn't think that would matter.

Not meaning to be a drag but isn't that jazz piece too long, or is 32 bars just an option?

Awesome! There are many entries! It's fun to listen to other users compositions! :)

And hey Victor, do you speak Spanish? I see Spanish words in your score, plus your name... xD

Yeah, I instated a 32 measure maximum so that no one would feel pressured to work on a more elaborate composition.

@Victor Seven: Do you have time to submit something a little shorter? If not, and if it is OK with everyone else, we could probably let this one slip since this is meant to be a low pressured composition contest.

 I feel stressed to have a measure limitation :heh:

Yes, if he doesn't have the time and that this is just the one, we can let it to the competition. ^.^

@Nyu001: Yes, I live in Spain. I usually write all indications in English, but this sheet was a present for a friend... And yes, my name is really fun, translating it to English literally is Victor Goodday XD

@Alpiso & Porsche: I go on holidays next day 10th... I donīt know if I will be able to make another song. But Iīll try it ^.^
Thank you for let me with this.

Title: 32bar Heroism

Tempo 110=quarter
Length 32bars

Doing this in one sit was actually kind of tough but it was fun doing it. This song uses 2 whole instruments from EWQL. The general idea I sort of imagined is a knight coming back with soldiers lined up along the sides and the king and queen at the end.

I get some inspiration today and I composed another song. This has 32 measures long.
However, for next I would put more time limit, and not in measures: I think itīs better in time: compositions of 2 or 3 minutes max. 32 measures is very short. -_-

Itīs a string quartet that I called "Promenade".

I hope you like it ^.^

@KaitouKudou, I like your composition. It sounds like a medieval game ost >.<

I don't know if this should be considered for the contest, as I've had the theme lying around for about two months now, and I definitely didn't finish it in one sitting.

Organ patches are so much better than choir patches.

July 10th, 2011, 09:29 pm
Nope, you're good! It was only recommended that it be done in one sitting, not required. I said that just so no one would feel pressured to spend a lot of time on their composition.

@ KaitouKudou > This is a great song ^_^ but i find that the end is too sudden

KaitouKudou
July 11th, 2011, 01:57 pm
Haha thanks. I agree with you. I tried putting in a rit at the end to help reduce the sudden-ness of it but it all comes down to the fact that I sat pretty long on it trying to do it in one sitting and my laziness got the better of me lol. I thought it was a requirement but I must had miss read it. Oh well, it's in there already.
