So I have a music exam coming up, and for part of it, I have to write an essay on jazz. I've learnt about jazz between 1910-1940, and some of the artists like Joe 'King' Oliver, Louis Armstrong (of course :P), Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw, Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker, etc. I was just wondering if anyone wanted to have some sort of discussion about it? It would be helpful revision xD.

So... got a favourite jazz song from this time period? I quite like Dippermouth Blues, myself. West End Blues too :).

If I recall correctly, Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk are part of the decade after. That's when bebop hit the scene and changed jazz. If you don't mind including the 40s, my favorite song is Ornithology, by Charlie Parker. I'm an alto sax player, so I have a bias toward "The Bird". I also like some of Django Reinhardt, but some of it is too twangy for my taste.

When I was younger, all I would listen to is big band jazz. XD Back then, my favorite song was probably "A String of Pearls" by the Glenn Miller Orchestra. The cool thing about the Glenn Miller Orchestra is that they are still around today (minus Glenn Miller of course)! I saw them play a concert ata local park a couple summers ago.
