So...

I think this has been the third time we've tried doing this - let's try to keep it running this time. :heh:

For those of you who are new to this idea, all you're doing is guessing the name, movement/section (if applicable), and composer of a piece (and anything else that you specify). Provide at the very least a few hints (3 is a good minimum) and sheet music and/or a .mp3 recording. We must be able to find a recording of this piece online.

I'll start this. :)

Hints:

1) The piece is based on two VERY well-known pieces by a Romantic composer.
2) The composer of this work is from a country that borders the Mediterranean.
3) The pieces were originally written for piano.

I have no idea of the arranger, but the original pieces are the Revolutionary Etude & Fantasie Impromptu by Chopin.

The arranger is Anže Rozman and the orchestra performing is the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra. I found this funny because I actually did listen to this version weeks ago! In Facebook "Classical Musicians Everywhere" posted the youtube video and the arranger commented in their post. I just remembered that and went to check. xD

This is his website if it helps to give him a bit of promotion here:

xD I played this piece in orchestra (clarinet part) last semester - Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1, first movement. Fun times. :)

Here's a new one.

Hints:

1) This composer was born in the same year as Bach.
2) This excerpt is from one of the composer's operas.
3) The opera pertains to a prominent Roman figure.

This was composed by Handel! And months ago there was a youtube link here in the forum with that part. I just can't remember where was posted, I think Alfonso de Sabio or you posted it, lol.

Julius Caesar, "Al lampo dell armi quest'alma guerriera", Handel.

Now for something a little different:

Hints:
1) The composer has a notable musical heritage, and is one of Stephen Sondheim's favorite composers alive.
2) The work this excerpt is taken from is bilingual in places.
3) The work is based on a novella written in the 1960s.
4) This song is sung by eight people.

I guess no one knows Adam Guettel. This is the Octet from his musical "The Light in the Piazza." He's the son of Mary Rodgers (Once Upon a Mattress, Freaky Friday) and the grandson of Richard Rodgers (Oklahoma, South Pacific, etc. etc.)

A much (MUCH) easier one, to get things rolling again.

1. This was the last piece written by this composer, and was premiered shortly before he died.
2. It is also said to be his favorite work.
3. No one knows for sure what it's about.
