Just saw Harry Potter 7 part 2.

I found it very disappointing. The execution of a few scenes wasn't nearly as climactic as I was hoping for. And the music made no references to John Williams' earlier themes.

I'm so glas 3D died out like a fast gimmick. After Avatar came out I got scared from all the hype that the artistry of traditional cinematography would phase out into a thing of the past... too many people in the world today just don't understand or appreciate the deliberate thought and art that goes into films.

3D is lame, it ruins the whole mood of the movie because you're constantly worrying about the damn glasses and then headaches. Plus you don't focus on the true art form of the movie, which most new movies have lost with all of these special computer effects. One such good movie that implied great cinematography and art was Batman: The Dark Knight. Chris Nolan really knows how to captivate you into the movie ever since he did Memento.

An Education is another good movie with great story and cinematography.

It's probably the most beautiful animation I've never seen. I felt that the pace that the story went was suitable for the type of story it is: a slice of life with tons of emotional torment.

I Am Number 4

Fairly average. Its okay if you just want the usual, minority awakens with powers to defeat "big, bad people". It did seem odd how some scenes were rather dark but the over-all tone of the film was pretty light and family, Disney-ish.

Just today I received 5 Chinese movies as a gift from my uncle at a family christmas party. So I'll be watching

Red Cliff Part 1 and 2
Three Kingdoms
14 Blades
The Lost Bladesman

in the next weeks to come. I've started watching Three Kingdoms and so far I'm rather enjoying it. It seems as though I'm watching an old tale or story that my dad would tell me as a kid, rather than actually watching a movie. I rather like this approach, I'll talk about it more once I've finished it. :)

I've been watching T.V. Series lately,
Firefly & Serenity (Finished)
Doll House (Finished the first season)
How I Met Your Mother (Midway through season one)
The Big Bang Theory (Finished every aired episode)

I pretty much love them all. I like The Big Bang Theory more so than How I Met Your Mother though. Firefly is awesome, it's too bad it got cancelled so soon; it had so much going for it. Dollhouse is pretty damn good too, the first few episodes don't add a whole lot as far as story goes, but then the story takes off like a rocket.

B3c@us3 1ts h1p, y0.

I can't joke about it too much though considering I haven't even heard of it.

I've just gotten back from seeing Puss in Boots. I was probably expecting too much from this movie, because it wasn't as good as I had hoped. It had its funny moments, but it just didn't live up to Puss as he is in Shrek. That being said it wasn't a bad movie, its still enjoyable to watch, I just say don't go in there expecting it to be of something like Shrek 1 or 2.

My friend's and I tried watching Another Earth last night, and when we were fifteen minutes into it we couldn't stop mocking it. What a horrible attempt at a Sci-Fi that isn't just for gross 30 year old men who live in their childhood home's basement, but an attempt at the least.

Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon
14 Blades.

Resurrection of the Dragon was to me, thoroughly enjoyable and much refreshing in the style it was done. The whole presentation of the movie felt as though I was watching someone tell an old story. Not to mention the movie carried a good meaning from start to end. Not a movie for everyone though, as I expect, with the style so different from anything I've seen in western media, might be difficult for some people to grasp/enjoy. Also despite being a war movie, it didn't appear as though the battles (as good as they were) were the main focus. I found myself becoming quite attached to certain characters and their story.

14 Blades was definitely a more all-round sort of film. Basic but solid story, good action, a tinge of romance.

No, basically the plot is Katniss Everdene from district 12 volunteers to take the place of her much younger sister Primrose. Listen man, it's not a rip off, it's really good. In the movie and book they pick fighters from each of the 12 districts between the ages of 12 and 18. So there are like these sick bad trained 18 year olds and these poor defenseless 12 and 13 year olds. Through it all, Katniss keeps her morals because she kills people when they are attacking her so it's more like a survival thing.

So wait, it's Battle Royale, except some of the fighters are trained? Kind of like how Battle Royale had those two repeat offenders joining the fray? And there were three books? That came out after Battle Royale? I don't see where you guys are going with this. I'll have to watch it at some point to find out just how much I dislike it. I don't even care if it's a ripoff, really; the trailer itself just made me facepalm.

Then again, if it does have a lot of differences from Battle Royale, I might still enjoy the books in spite of myself, lol.

It's kind of like comparing Deep Impact with Armageddon. Both are about meteors about to hit the earth, but one of them focused on characters and story, while the other was more about the action. Same in this case. Hunger games is about a character and her story, Battle Royale is more of an action flick. Pick whichever you prefer.

Jumping on the band wagon, I saw Hunger Games 2 days ago. I actually quite enjoyed it. The big winner for me was the fact the show kept fairly serious (or more per-say, kept to its style? Anyway.) throughout. It didn't do anything terribly cheesy or try and break what it had been presenting.

As for the Battle Royal thing, I didn't even know what it was until everyone started talking about it.

Thanks for the link, Neko. It confirmed what I already thought to be the case:

So which movie is for who? The Hunger Games is for people that enjoy their romance with a twist. The Hunger Games, like Twilight, has the love triangle. Instead of Bella-Edward-Jacob, this time we have Katniss-Peeta-Gale. Ignoring the comparison, The Hunger Games is a vast improvement over the Twilight flicks. It’s not a bad movie and is worth at least a watch. It’s by no means bad! But if you’re looking for a hardcore action movie, this isn’t what you need.

For a hardcore action movie, Battle Royale is up among the best. But even more than just an action movie, it has something that The Hunger Games doesn’t: dark humor. My best friend and I watched Battle Royale just the other night and laughed hysterically at the “no whispering” part and the absurdity of getting stuck with a pot lid as a weapon (We were both laughing at a kill in The Hunger Games but we were the only ones. Maybe we’re twisted).
I could tell The Hunger Games was for the Twilight crowd just from a few trailers. Am I a genius, or is it just that obvious?
Both, lol.
And I don't know where you stopped watching BR, Neko, but it wasn't just an action movie at all; like the article you linked to says, it's actually a very dark satire of the Japanese government (and stupid adults in general). The blood is just a vehicle for expressing that. I'd suggest giving it another go, unless you really hated it. It ends up being a very touching story in the end, in my opinion. It opens up in the second half, and shows its true colors. =)

Taemond, I'd suggest watching it, too!

Seems I'm still the only person out who hasn't watched HGs.

o.o Last movie I watched was "In the Name of the Father". Wasn't all that good but it was pretty shocking to see what the British legal system can be like.

Now that I think of it, I think I watched the beginning of BR with a bunch of friends years ago and through the middle or so we just got bored with it.

Extended Length, or Theatrical Release? If EL, then holy crap, that must have been a long day.

I've done it twice. Not many like movies that last that long (e.g. the full star wars collection). I know I liked it. This next time, I'm going to watch the extra features, though that may require a full weekend.

Pretty sure it was theatrical release. We started at like 6:30 pm and ended around 4 am. That's like 10 hours, but I've only ever seen the theatrical release and I don't remember seeing anything new this time around. Plus, I think after the first movie we took a fifteen minute break and then took a half hour break after the third. So, it's probably closer to 8.5 hours of actual watch time.

My next marathon will probably take place when The Hobbit hits DVD/Blue-Ray, that'll be one hell of a day.

The Lorax and Outrage. I was surprised by The Lorax, it was a lot better than I thought it would be!

EDIT: And I just watched Appaloosa. Not bad for a modern western, though not all that great either.

The Lucky One... Better than Dear John, not as good as The Notebook. Either way, it's a chick flic and should be avoided.

EVERYONE is a boss in Pulp Fiction. That's why it's such an awesome movie. XD
I don't think there was one character in that movie I disliked, hahah.

Went and saw the midnight release of The Avengers.

It was pretty good as far as marvel movies go. I wish they'd stop making shit in 3d though. I would have gone and saw the 2d one but they were only showing it in 3d at the midnight release.

Dark Shadows

I quite enjoyed this. Got quite a few smiles of amusement and laughter out of me too. I felt as though it could have spent a few more minutes on each of the characters, just so the audience could get a better feel and likeness for them. While not Tim Burton's best work, its still a great film which will give you some good laughs, also quite a few clever references to Burton's other movies.

I went to catch a screening of The Avengers, and with no real knowledge of the superheroes (back story and history), I found it slightly amusing. Unfortunately I had not been reading any of Marvel's comics (Cable and Deadpool is an exception), and thus I probably couldn't find it to be a spectacular film. I probably now should watch all the individual movies (The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, etc). Movie marathon, go!

Out of those movies, the Hulk movie is probably the least interesting for me. Iron Man is just awesome because well, it's Iron Man! Captain America is pretty good too. Thor is just upright hilarious.
