The Adventure of Tintin
Soundtrack

Lately I have been listening to this soundtrack composed and conducted by John Williams. I was very excited to listen to this soundtrack since last year. Now that I finally got the chance to listen to it my first impression was not what I was expecting. However, the more I listened to it the more I got hooked to its clever orchestration and the themes of the movie. You can notice in the tracks that John Williams keeps his compositional signature. Some passages of the orchestra will remind you to some of the old soundtracks he has composed. Also I think there are hints of the original TV animated series theme.

My first listening was not really an enjoyment nor what I expected, maybe because I was not really paying deep attention to the orchestra. Now I really enjoy it a lot.

What are your thoughts about the soundtrack?

I've listened to a few tracks, and I can't say I like it too much, despite being a fan of his works. Personally, I prefer Williams' more melodic works, and nothing that I've heard so far has given semblance of a terribly memorable theme. Maybe I just haven't been listening to the right tracks.

I do remember the original Tintin theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fg59bnFKAI&feature=related) though, and it was very memorable for me despite not having heard it in many years. Was it referenced in this score?

This was one thing that I strongly was expecting from the soundtrack and never happened. Being an animated film I wanted to hear a theme that stand out. When I listened to the soundtrack more times I finally discovered the themes of the movie. They are not really something memorable from the start or fresh compared with Jurassic Park, Home Alone or Hook. But the themes are there, and exposed briefly, even an heroic/adventurous theme that plays just for a few bars in some tracks (Included in my first post above).

Someone already cut it from there:

And you can hear that theme in the opening sequence briefly:

And in other tracks as this one you can hear that theme:

There is also Snowy's theme and other themes that are very recurrent through the tracks.

And yes, I keep thinking there are hints of that old TV series theme. *Not truly sure, but something is there to me*

I don't know too much about the original Tintin music, but just from listening to that track (the new one that is in the first post), it's not the Williams that I would expect, but I have to say - I really like it, but I'm not (personally) the most enthusiastic about it. (Of course, my personal preference is not toward melody but rather motivic development.)

I didn't listen to this soundtrack a lot, but right now I share the same opinion as most of you guys. It's nothing quite memorable, maybe I'll enjoy it more after a while...
I guess I'm comparing this soundtrack too much with what he achieved with Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, ... I don't think he'll be able to reach such a level again.
