Ok, this thread is for discussion of the Ocarina. Much like the General Pianist Thread.

I just received a Triple Chamber Ocarina as a Christmas present from my Grandmom. It's a plastic one, as the clay ones were VERY expensive. The brand is STL, if anybody is wondering.

So far, I find learning it to be very simple. But I am finding some learning problems so far. I decided that I'm going to order a plastic 12 hole Tenor Ocarina from STL Ocarina so it will be easier to learn the Triple Chamber. Besides, it's easier to find sheets for the 12 hole.

Does anybody else here play the Ocarina?

I've got myself an exact replica of the Ocarina of Time (which is ceramic and also some metals to strengthen it, and yes it is a left handed version as well ;) ). Which plays beautifully. :) I've also got another transverse ocarina which is a simple 6 hole one made of red gum. Personally I immediately disregarded the tablature and learn't the actual notes so I could simply play the music I already have instead of trying to find tabs.

I've played a few triple chambers and to be honest I prefer the double myself, I find the tone is a bit more cleaner, but then you do have the restriction of controlling the tone and timbre. I would definitely advise getting a clay or ceramic one as soon as possible though, I started with a plastic one myself, and after moving to ceramic and wood, I would never go back. XD

I love the ocarina, I just wish I'd get more of an opportunity to play it. I used my Zelda one in a celtic concert once and I've used my wooden one twice at medieval re-enactment fairs.

Yes, I plan to get a clay ocarina when I get the money.

As for now, I'm planning to order another plastic ocarina. This one is a 12 Tenor.

I also have the Oot replica. It cost around $100, but it's well worth it. Songbird includes a nice little songbook with it.

From what I've read, Songbird is decent, but not your best choice. What influenced you to pick them? Is it good?

I actually ordered from songbird a while back, while they make fairly good ocarina's, their OoT replica isn't an exact one at all. They might have made an exact one now, I did order mine about 6 years ago. Despite not having an exact replica at that time it was still a good quality ocarina.
