Hey, I haven't drawn in a while but yesterday, I had a huge explosion of drawing ability, don't know why but I'm really loving it
(as said at mc donalds) This is Blinx, I think this is my best illustration I've ever done. I was thinking of taking a major in illustration in
College. Do you think I have the potential for that? :\

The pic is called "Have you got the Time" This took like 7 hours total to draw and I killed on detail in zippers, ridges, wrinkles, shading ugh... It was well worth it but I'm so tired. :P

I've seen twelve year olds that draw better than you....and I've seen people with art degrees who draw worse. It's not about how much potential you have, it's about how much you're willing to devote yourself to drawing. There was a girl in my highschool who supposedly drew for six hours a day. You should be asking yourself whether or not you're brave enough to fight someone like that, not worrying about how much hidden talent you have. You can do whatever you want if you're willing to try hard enough. If you really love drawing, then start studying:

Hopeless composer, your so right and you have empowered me to practice my butt off from now on drawing. Today I worked on drawing
perspective and buildings and some trees which are things I haven't drawn much and was too lazy to but now I swear that I'm determined
to become a master artist :) Do you think this pic is good? I can't believe how accurate the anatomy is on this one. for once it doesn't
look stiff. But I did some seeing exercises and now I'm way better at drawing what I see in photos so that was a huge help. Though I
already study anatomy and posemaniacs I don't do it enough. :\

That's great to hear. You'll slowly but surely become a great artist as long as you keep at it. Just remember that, because a lot of the time it'll feel like you're not getting any better, but you always are. Save your old drawings to look back on every six months. You'll be surprised at how much you improve. =)

Do you think this pic is good?
The blinx one? I'm not seeing a new picture in your post. "Good" is relative. If you're talking about good compared to professionals, then I'd have to say no. There's a huge gap between your picture and a professional's picture. But it's good for you, which is great. Your practice is paying off, hahah. And in a few years, you'll be ten times better, if you keep it up.

If you're talking about good for like....an amateur artist, then yeah, it's not bad. There aren't any glaring faults in it or anything like that, so I'd call it good in that sense. =)
Keep up the good work!

yes, the hardest thing about practicing is when you draw something, it may look terrible but what matters is the effort and study time you put into practicing so your later pictures are better ^^ I really like it though, Obviously the biggest gap between mine and pro artist would be the clothing wrinkles and the shading but I really need to work on those. I think I'm going to start an artist journel, like a sketch book
where I keep all my anatomy, fabric and nature studies documented for later and plus, you tend to retain better when you make it look
nice. But to be honest, alot of pro manga-ka don't really look that pro to me. May'be it's their style but it's probably consistency that
counts in manga. Tite kubo is amazing but some artist who make money off their art I think are worse than me, but again,
that's probably just my preference. XD

I do think I've developed a style to a point though, if you notice, I like detail especially in clothing and anatomy. I always like to
suggest the different muscles and bones more than some people. Exaggerating it a bit.

I bet it's hard to critique someone and make it both honest and kind. I was hoping for critique for improvement like specific faults. But you have to realize this is the first picture I've ever done that actually doesn't have obvious MAJOR flaws so that in itself makes me a very
happy puppy.

This brings to mind the saying "it takes one to know one." Do you have any specific examples of pro art that's worse than yours? I don't want to offend you, but if you learn at the average speed, you're at least five years away from being a pro artist. You're grossly underestimating professional art, hahah.

I didn't critique anything specific, because there are no glaring faults. You simply have to practice, practice, and practice some more to get that pro shine on your work, heheh.
And I don't know if my critiques come off as kind or not. I try to be honest first, and kind second. I think it's horrible to give people false critiques just to make them feel better about themselves. I know you're smart enough to not be discouraged by harsh critique, anyway. =)

Yeah. ^^ Oh no, I meant there are pro manga ka with experience who draw very consistently and probably quickly but their anatomy
isn't so hot. I dunno, I just go by what I see not what they can do under pressure or if they wanted to draw something else. I know I'm like 5 years away, don't worry I'm not cocky, I'm just happy enough with my current skills that I want to practice alot. I don't take your critique harsh either, it's honest which is good. Now if you said, "I think your drawing looks like crap" that would be unhelpful critique rather
than artistic critique. ;)

Pretty awesome drawing. I first thought Blinx was holding a chainsaw, but it's an electric guitar, right? Right...?? I'm not so sure anymore. Whatever.
I want to tell you that I think you did a fine job showing the characteristics of the characters. It seems like Chell got Blinx's back and I like the idea of that. It shows me that she wants to protect that "childish" Blinx. Of course, I could be wrong, but that's the feeling I got from the pose and the gesture.
I want to also point out something I learned from my very first figure drawing class. I was taught that one should always emphasize the bones closest to the viewers. Example of this would be like... the iliac crest in our pelvis, elbows, knees, knuckles... pretty much the corners of our body parts. So lately I've been trying to draw those "pointy corners" darker than other lines around those corners. Hope that makes sense. Like... if I have two knees, right one closer to the viewers than the left one... then I would make the right knee the darkest and the left knee less darker... but still darker than the left leg... depending on how the legs are angled. SO! In your drawing I would suggest that you make Blinx's knuckles the darkest since they are the closest things to the viewers.. and his other hand lighter.

I think you got some good sense in illustration. You could, though, show some more of Blinx. He feels a little cut off... and I think part of the reason why you were having some tough times drawing him is probably because you weren't able to show everything you wanted to show about this character due to lack of space to the right. So perhaps you had to adjust to that space. I think the boots came out better than you think. Good work. YOU MAKES ME WANNA DRAW CATZZ! ^^

ooh, yeah, thanks for the awesome advice! I'm working on the colored version right now but so far, Blinx's fur is the hardest thing to color.
Mostly because I didn't have an end result for it in mind which obviously is very bad. But now I think I found a picture on deviant art which gave me some ideas I'm gonna use for fur painting reference. But yeah, Blinx was crammed kind of, But unfortunately I really couldn't do
anything about it. If I was a pro, I would of redrew chell but she looked so good I wasn't going to dare redraw her. Yeah, I am kind of
aware of the closer objects lines being darker but I seem to always forget it, but that is something alot easier to fix than some anatomy
problem. Yeah, chell's got blinx's back. Blinx to me, seems like in this picture that he's real ambitious and underestimates the danger of
something. It's like, he's got his shirt open to look tough but he may be naive about it. He's more like some ambitious teenager trying to look cool while chell is like 22 or something and has alot more experience That's how I felt about this. :D

See: It's a sweeper, it basically sucks up things and compresses them regardless of the size. And you can control the flow of time!

whoa... did you draw this, too? and does compressed things create heat... since that's what compression does... Just wondering.

oh no, that's a 3d model image from the creators, I can't do that. I wish I did that XD
That was one of the references I used. He's supposed to be the same age in my drawings and the official
Blinx pic, but my style doesn't make people shorter than in reality so that's the main difference.

Well I meant compressed like, um trying to think of how to explain it... like sucks up things then spits it back out when you want to and it's in one piece original size. Though there are fire sweepers
