i know a decent violin will cost around $2000USD, and a friend recently bought a nice horn at $1800USD. don't know about the flute and the clarinet, but any professional quality instrument will cost you around those figures.

you can usually get pre-owned intruments for MUCH cheaper (just be sure to play it before you buy) from either your local music store or the classifieds.

For a beginner I wouldn't recommend spending more than 200 quid for a new violin (Stentor Mk II or Prima Vera are good beginner brands)

In Aus, Enrico is a good starter brand, around $200 :)

well, even pre-owned professional instruments could get very expensive, especially if the owner is a musician and knows its worth. heck, i say buy a pre-owned instrument from a professional at $2000, because you'd know what you're getting.

A contrabass flute I would guess to be around $20,000 because you never find them anywhere. Violins and clarinets shouldn't be too bad, maybe $700-$2000. I don't know anything about french horns. Try searching online, at garage sales (yes, some instruments are sold there), at local music stores, and in the classifieds.
