we all know the pc is better in the sence that you can do so many more things with it but which is better when it comes to gaming? would you rather be playing your games on a console (xbox, ps2, gamecube) or on your pc? there are advanteges either way such as cool controllers and a TV screen with a console.

i'd say a console is better for videogames, what about you?

Consoles are better because the quality of the graphics and speed is much better. (I have a crappy computer. -_- )

that's because consoles run at 640x480, which takes very little GPU power. normally, people run stuff at 1024x760 or even 1280x1024 on a monitor, which is why it's so much slower. also, consoles are dedicated hardware, so they don't have a lot of stuff clogging up the memory.

Actually PC's have better graphics and are far more powerful to show those graphics. The Playstation 2 isn't capable of showing Graphics like Doom 3

I thought PS2 ran in 800x600? Oh well. I would think that consoles are only good for racing, party, and fighting games...or parking your kids in front of it for 8 hours to keep them quiet ^^ Other wise, I'd like the comp for any other game. FPS on consoles suck. Someone is behind you tearing you apart with their ginormous mini-gun and you hit the joystick to turn around and it takes like 20 minutes, and by the time you find your target, you're dead. >.< As opposed to, the speed of the mouse. And I don't think any console can run Doom3, or Endevor Online, or another incredibly demanding game.
(Whoa! This is so cool! :boo: Weeeee!)

no. most tv's maximum resolution is 640x480. hopefully the ps3 will have higher resolutions, since HDTV will likely be the standard by the time of its release.

Doom 3 and Half Life 2 are both coming out on Xbox. And from the screenshots I've seen, they look awesome.
But they can't run in 1024x768 because the ?X-Box would explode :D besides, Doom 3 looks great with the GFX details on LOW, I run it on high on my laptop. Who tells me the Xbox version isn't in low detail?

As far as graphics go, I will always put my vote on the computer. No matter how good the consoles' graphics engines will become, the computers' will always conquer them.

As for gameplay, I also vote for the computer. I just feel that it's a better gaming machine, and it's suitable for many many game genres. The console is certainly better in family games like Super Smash Bros, but other than that the computer smashes away the console. =]

You're right, the SNES ownz everything. My brother's SNES doesn't work on my TV, but I have an emulator and 4 GB of SNES ROMS. conclusion: PC is better than Console :D

The thing is, graphics are not everything. Hell, graphics are barely anything in terms of games. It's all about gameplay. And if I can get that gameplay on a system that costs a lot less than the average powerful PC, then I will.

My friend spent £300 on his graphics card. Admittedly it's amazingly powerful, and he wont need to upgrade it for sometime, but I spent £80 on my Xbox, for which I get games that run well with, In my opinion, good graphics, and I won't need to update that Xbox for a fair while. Plus, when I do need to update, e.g. get an Xbox 2 or whatever, it'll still cost less than that £300 graphics card, and will be useful for longer than that graphics card.

It's all about cost effectiveness. If I was rich/stupid with my money, then sure, I'd go out and buy a much more expensive PC. But the thing is, I'm not, and neither are most people!
realize that you can use computers for something OTHER than games, while a console is a machine that does games and nothing else.

and speaking of price, let's look at it this way: take all the consoles you can emulate on a PC, add their launch prices together, and then compare with the price of the PC. value! heck, a neo geo alone will cost upwards of $2000. can a xbox do that?

and let's not start on how "it's all about gameplay", because face it, graphics is a huge part of a game and affects the gameplay a lot. why is far cry, doom 3, and half life 2 so critically acclaimed? certainly not because of their super-innovative gameplay.

Doom 3 got the creepy atmosphere because of the graphics. Maybe not the most important thing but they do add. And now you can go "BUT RESIDENT EVIL WAS SCARY TOO ~!". Maybe, but that was a completely different kind of scare game XP

yeah, if you stick linux on it. which turns it into a low-grade computer, which you can buy at some hardware place for an equivilent amount of cash :P

harv: wow, why do you like the xbox so much, if you're only interested in gameplay? saturn's games has MUCH better gameplay! look at snes! some of the best games in terms of game play are on there. what do you think all the new hardware for the consoles are for? boosting the gameplay? well, guess what? more realistic graphics help gameplay.

and i did not say i only care about graphics; i merely said graphics on the PC are BETTER than graphics on the xbox. plus the fact that the games are the same, the result is gaming on the PC > gaming on the xbox. you, on the other hand, are just repeating "sure, graphics are better on the pc, but who cares? you're just superficial if you care about that. xbox is better." your argument involves neither sense nor logic, so i suggest you stop talking until you come up with some valid points.

And would that "low grade computer" you buy from "some hardware place" be able to play Xbox games?

and would xbox with linux be able to play PC games, while keeping in mind that emulation is slow enough that recent games are rendered unplayable?

besides, i doubt xbox could play neogeo very well, either.

Well I played Metal Slug on the Xbox, was pretty flawless.

And if it was a "low grade" computer, it wouldn't be able to play the recent pc titles, would it?

Basically it isn't, an XBox title isn't a PC title, the same game can look heaps better on PC.

i can buy a sempron 2400 with 256mb ram system for the same price as an xbox

that'd play recent games decently.

compared to an xbox, with linux on it, emulating windows, with a 733mhz processor and 64mb of ram. heh.

and considering that most xbox games suck, i wouldn't want to play them anyways.

*cools you off with a fan* What do you mean 'arguing'? It's just a conversation man, it's what makes it debatable you know. =_=

Oh, and if you can't still play something likeTetris and enjoy it then you have a problem. One of the most successful games of all time, with the shittest graphics known to man.

I'm tired of arguing with you about everything and anything. I get it, you love PC's and hate consoles. I like PC's and consoles as well, but I'm just not prepared to spend over the top amounts of cash to play games.
well, i apologize for my inability to enjoy tetris; it's lacking in terms of everything from gameplay to storyline to graphics. you see lots of people sit around and play pong all day, eh? and every comment from you has pointed to the fact that you seem to think that pc's are purely made for gaming. pc's are neither a) "over the top cash" nor b) "[only] to play games".

consoles r for those, who r too lazi to get upgrades, n stuff
which is aiite, cz den if nu games com out, deres no need to think, "can my machine run this?"
pcs on the other hand, can play much higher graphics game, n pc games hav the potential to hav their graphics enhanced wen newer graphics cards com out
but den older pc would hav trouble wif newer games

i find racing games a lot more fun on console games den on pc, bcz controllers r usualli pressure sensitive, whereas keyboards aint, so u can control the speed of the car etc etc
