Anarchy Online is one of the more popular MMOGs in the western/european market. They just offered a year free for the basic game if you make an account before jan 15th.

Oh, that's weird. But KoL is full of sarcastic jokes and witty humor. It's pretty funny for a browser game. It's a browser-RPG, so it doesn't have graphics. Well, there's little images to click on, but they're not the kind of graphics I mean. I guess if I had to, I could compare it to Neopets, but Neopets sucks, and KoL is a million-billion times better. There's also chat rooms and stuff, so it's not boring like Neopets.

Yeah, there's worlds with the same town in each, but you can switch whenever you want. Also, it's like an RPG. You can stay in the town with the shops, etc., or you can do the levels which contain items and monsters to fight.

Its not a BAD game but it does take majority of its concepts from world of warcraft. I just downloaded "Fiesta" from Outspark, and played for a few hours. I think it's really fun. It takes Trickster's feel and the feel (well, from what I've watched of it) of WoW and puts it into one. Except you don't get tired of it, like Trickster.

Maple. You can never truely leave it.
Lunia is still a fresh game with multiple bugs. But you should still go play it if you like MMORPG.

MapleStory definitely is not as good as you're making it. It's slow paced, boring, and the community is 100x worse than any other MMORPG game.

Im now trying Perfect World, and its true that Maple sucks. U shouldnt lose ur life to MS. I dunno about Lunia, but its graphichs are not high enough for me. Worse thing in MS is that almost all ppl hack and u cant get forever bans, only temporary ones^^

Myself and a few others are planning to regroup on maple for a few weeks on the Mardia server if anyone wants to join. Some of us will be starting fresh while others will be breaking out the good old characters.

:bleh: at all the maple story haters. (likes it) Where's the love? -_- True, MS may not always be fun but that happens to every game I played (even my favorites). To me, my friends make it fun like Han and the people I met there. Plus, I liked the 2D scrolling aspect of the game (like playing snes again) and there's an anime feel to it so that makes me like it more. (likes chibi style) But... to each their own I suppose. :\

Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I've yet to find a free online mmo where the community isn't comprised of ten year olds, ass hats, and jerks with credit cards buying the "cash" items and kicking everyone else's butts.

I did like Granado Espada though. Mostly because you can play solo extremely easily (yay three toons at once) but it's also quite fun if you drag a friend along. Amazing soundtrack too. I think there's even a piano score or two in this forum somewhere if you search for it.

That 3 character system looks kinda cool. It's also used in another new game but I forgot the name, it has it's own thread here though :D

btw there is a seperate maple post so dont advertise it to much here... a new game that im currently playing and is decent cus they just patched up all the current hacks is Seal online. English version just came out in beta 2 weeks ago so if you people want give it a shot =p

I quit Maple Story because the game's died since Nexon took over. And did you hear about what happened with the whole gender selection issue? 1.5 million players left because Nexon gave that feature to NX people only. I think that was a petty reason to leave, but the fact is that they left. I got sick of the increasing rate of n00bs and the incredible boredom from the lack of friendly people to just randomly chat with. The game itself is fun, but the community and depressing updates drove me mad.

Silk Road is decent if you have friends and you can endure the god awful lag, crowded servers, and incredibly silent people. >.>

I played FlyFF for a while, and it was really fun, especially since my friend played also. Course, since I switched over to Silk Road, I haven't played it in a while, but I might as well go back because Silk Road is getting incredibly boring..... And I'm not even level 20 yet on it.....

yep is does looks alot like flyff. i played both but i would say seal is better for now. flyff is still a little buggy and the people arent relaly nice. and since their fixing most bugs and patching constantly once its out of beta seal should be a pretty decvent game.

not a lot of detail in the article there but hell I helped to localise this game for Korea. so having test-played it for like 300 hrs its kinda okay. often referred as a joke as Ragnarok 1.5 or Ragnarok 3D because of its similiarity with it. But yeah.. no plans for english release as of yet..

Plenty of fun and free games to play now days. If you feel you have played them all but still looking for new ones then it's not the games that are the problem...Lifestyle change!

Here's the thing. 1~2 hrs of playtime a day and a month later, and you're STILL going to be hitting those same damn cute mushroom thingies which by then your mind is no longer capable of indentifying as "cute".

Its really like being lv 98 on diablo2 or something. Just waste hours and hours and hours on mindless slaughter, back to town, sell the crap you've picked up, stack up on pots and repeat. If you like that, yeah sure fine that's nice. Have fun. I did that too for a few years when I was a kid.




Sure, a stereotypical MMORPG is just that and most of them are defined by "how cute the illustrations can be" etc, but hell.. once in a while, you'd want to try something else? :mellow:

and that's why I'm recommending mabinogi. There's something else to do between those times at town when you restock on supplies.



Rappelz, ROSE(..this one didn't last long did it?), RO2 (hidious failure, apparently they beta released it a whole year too early on schedule), ECO (only going strong in Japan cuz of its compatibility with a lot of brocolli stuff.. and Gamerz (or was it Dengeki?)), SEAL, Talesweaver, WoW(ok, I'll give you that this one's more about PvP than grind, but there's the grind TO the PvP), Lineage/2 (Both of them the biggest grind's i've ever seen in my life, source code shows monster item drops at like 0.00000024%), ugh, can't name them all and don't want to. Especially the minor ones all based around chinese mythology stuff.

Too many games out there that are just "competent stodge" (..as my HS english teacher used to say). They all seem okay individually but it just fails to stand out, and so once you get bored of one it doesn't take long for you to pick up another and lose it within days.



Incidentally, I was looking forward to Gundamonline, which was going to be free (to play, with cash purchased rare units and etc)

But then, service closed before they were done with beta. Wow. Like 6 years of development down the drain.

Seriously though, I'm sure we could compile a list of over 50 games of which only about 3 would cost some money to play. With each one we could give the problems and good points without even thinking about them.
In the end it doesn't really matter as it's not like you ever get anything back from the games and if i play one game why would that be a problem to you, esspecially if i didn't even tell you what games I play.

I'm just bitching about all the games availuable to the English speaking public in general. Unfortunately they happen to be the lamest ones out there. Best ones seem to only stay within the Asia border, sad.

For an alternative MMORPG experience: Puzzle Pirates (http://www.puzzlepirates.com)

This game is "cute and easy on the video card," one of a very limited number of cross-platform MMOs, and minimizes the grind element by basing all stats on the player's performance in puzzles. It's free to play, though you can use cash to supplement your play (though all the money in the world won't make up for incompetence at the puzzles ;)). Each of the servers has its own personality, and there is plenty of player-driven politics to dirty yourself in (or avoid, if you don't like that kind of stuff).

It's definitely not aimed at the usual MMORPG community, so it may not be what you're looking for. However, it's worth trying out, and also worth keeping, as it's probably the only MMO where the top players don't necessarily play day and night.

I played Runescape, but it got really old, and then I got lost, and I haven't played in, what...2-3 years? The only rpg I play now is Harmonic Dissonance, and that's not exactly what you'd call massive...meh.

As soon as you have been able to fly the game becomes pointless. I explored everywhere on the fastest board and then saw nothing but training left. So I left.

but you can upgrade your account to 'Members'
where you get extra privilages, like you can explore new lands, and get better weapons

Runescape actually had pretty good depth and gameplay aspects, just not big on graphics. Apparently some recent updates and poor decision making on the staff side really hurt the game's enjoyability though.

Also tried Sword of the New World, Granado Espada. It was a decent game, nice graphics and very good music, but the content was one dimensional... PVP in that game was rather mediocre as well.

lol Yeah. It's a lot fun playing Mabinogi. Unlike Maple Story, you can keep yourself entertained w/out always fighting. Whether it's playing your favorite Bleach or Naruto song (you can also make your own like I'm doing) or learn how to cook or tailor, there's always something for you to do. Not to mention your character can age (and grow) and since your age can determine how much ap points (points used for ablilities) you earn every Saturday beside from leveling and quests, it can also determine which stats will effect your stats when you level for that current age. There's also a rebirth function but you can go to the website to learn more about that. You should at least give it a try to see if you'll like it. If you want to contact me in game, add me. Oh man, Conqueronline.... Lol, man I've had such great memories in that game. Was so addicted to it back in middle school, I would basically live on it. I had a lvl 93 somewhat water tao out of the level limit 130 (which afterwards you may rebirth)

I also had a ton of miner accounts, one trojan warrior lvl 70 and a lvl 70 somewhat archer that I shared w/ someone.

Great memories, had a very good guild as well, probably the best in my server. Yeah, Conquer has got to be the best MMORPG I've ever played... before, of course, the Europeans went up and took over it.

try playing Granado Espada , it has PK and non-PK servers and it is a mutliple character game (you can control 3 characters at any time)

Hmm... Granado Espada's PK system is interesting, but way too equipment based... There's not enough versatility to most classes, and some stances are unviable. Additionally, it's insanely hard to actually find any pvp in that game, and it's very unrewarding. Baroning doesn't do anything after you get the back equipment, and weekly tournaments are constantly getting canceled.

I must say, I feel Runescape's old PVP system (the now removed wilderness) is many times more interesting.
