Say I composed something...how can I put it into a midi?

You need to use software such as Finale 2003 or higher (I think it's 2003+), Noteworthy Composer,MidiNotate Composer, or some other program capable of sequencing MIDI files.

If you want the cheapest and most effective way for a novice at MIDI sequencing, you might want to try Finale NotePad 2005 Plus. It costs about $25 I think, and it lets you have a wide variety of instruments, as well as MIDI file saving features.

MidiSoft Session is very cheap and easy to use. I have a very old version (for windows 3.1) that I use for quick midi composition. If you want to actually create musical score that's printable and reformattable, this is probably not good software to use. The size of this is software around 80k. You could easily put this on a 3.5 floppy disk.

But if you want something more complex, finale is probably one of the better pieces of software.

For Producing/recording, you may want to get something like Cubase, Sonar, Logic, or even one of the cheaper bundle kits like Reason and Fruity Loops. You compose using midi, then you engineer the sound that the midi will map to. This is how most musicians digitally edit their music and/or digitally compose their music.

If you ever need additional help or information, you can always aim me.

Okay, close your eyes and clap your heels together three times and chant 'I wish this were a midi.' When you open up your eyes, there should be a midi file magically placed on your desktop.

If this for some reason does not work, then try hooking up your keyboard to your computer and recording the MIDI coming in from the keyboard. This also can be a good way to compose from the start.
