Has anyone seen any of the new violins being made today? Some are made for quality, but most these days are made for affordability and eye candy. Take a gander at some of these weird violin designs and colors I found on e-bay!

Here's a pink violin you wouldn't catch me playing dead! (http://www.alrons.com/ebay/violin/pink/dsc03236.jpg)

Here's a very oddly-shaped blue electric violin. (http://www.saletime.net/vioelecb_1.jpg)

Here's a more traditional-looking blue violin. I particularly like how the Jujube chinrest, tailpiece, etc. contrast the blue color. (http://i7.ebayimg.com/03/i/02/5b/37/f5_1.JPG)

Here's an attractive metallic purple violin. (http://i11.ebayimg.com/02/i/02/d0/97/88_1.JPG)

This is a very loud green violin! (http://www.musikvalue.com/img/greenviolin1.jpg)

Yes, they even have white. (http://i20.ebayimg.com/03/i/03/19/cf/69_1.JPG)

And for you lovers of black, here's the violin for you! (http://i23.ebayimg.com/03/i/03/0f/69/b0_1.JPG)

Someone hasn't been feeding their electric violin! (http://i12.ebayimg.com/03/i/03/0f/57/17_1_b.JPG)

Look - It's a swan! Oh, whoops. That's just another electric violin. (http://imagehost.vendio.com/bin/imageserver.x/00000000/musicmaster/BVEPWDLX1.jpg)

Here's a very red violin. (http://imagehost.vendio.com/bin/imageserver.x/00000000/musicmaster/fireice3.jpg)

Cherryburst finish. How cool! (http://i15.ebayimg.com/03/i/03/1c/04/41_12_sb.JPG)

Umm... I guess that's a violin. And no, it is NOT a backscratcher! (http://dslweb.nwnexus.com/jensmus/vln428l.gif)

Lime green. 6 strings. It's basically a stick. Ick! (http://dslweb.nwnexus.com/jensmus/col997l.gif)

Whatcha guys think of those? :P Not exactly the traditional designs, huh? I'm sure that Antonio Stradivari would turn over in his grave if he saw these. ^.^

I'm thinking of getting a nice blue one....

Your pink violin link doesn't look pink to me =P

I remember you posted links to some coloured violins . . I guess you didn't buy that blue one yet, eh? But these new pics have some pretty nifty designs! Very innovative . . I want to see a violin shaped in the form of the treble clef! ^^

I like how some of them are stripped down to the bare essentials. But I thought you needed the wood case to help let the sound resonate?

in this case, the sound doesn't have to resonate; it's amplified by an amp.

though those "stick" builds would be hard to play, since they don't have a body to wrap your arm around...

It still has the stop by the wrist for shifting up in positions... I dunno why it'd be considered to hard to play. The tuners are at the chinrest to weight it efficiently. :) I think it'd be easier to play... And it has a built-in shoulder rest.

@Al, you don't think it looks pink? Looks pretty pink to me! :P

I just bought this violin earlier:
http://i7.ebayimg.com/03/i/02/5b/37/f5_1.JPG

Cost me about $65 altogether, including shipping. :D It'll be cheap junk probably, but I can get some good strings to put on it and get a good bow, and maybe it won't be half-bad. Besides, that way I won't have to bring my expensive violin to school anymore. :D

(EDIT: Fixed link to picture.)

That must be what The Joker (http://amine.laggoune.free.fr/21%20Jack%20en%20joker.jpg) plays while he's dancing with the Devil by the Pale Moonlight.

$65, for a violin? that's damned cheap.

Woohoo! It finally arrived! It looks GREAT and is a bit darker than the picture shows, which is even better. :) The strings it came with aren't that great (they're wound with something that makes it hard to shift), so I'll need to replace these with some good ones soon. :) However, it sounds great for the price, and it isn't that hard to make it sound good.

I love it! :D Now I can show it off at school tomorrow. :D Some time, I can post a picture of me playing it, maybe. :)
