I'm just starting to get into anime and I've see Noir and really enjoyed it. I prefer slightly more realistic animes and more drama than comedy. I'd really appreciate any suggestions for what I should see next and what classics I should see.

I suggest:
Saishuuheiki Kanojo (Saikano)
Shingetsutan Tsukihime
Fruits Basket
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien

Haibane Renmei
oh Scrapped Princess was good too

Edit: ohh how could I forget X_X:
Kanon
Hoshi no Koe
She and Her Cat
mm Ayashi no Ceres T_T

nyeh, Angelic's seen much more than me... just read in the big box below this one

Drama over comedy? Try:

- Saishuu Heiki Kanojo (She, the Ultimate Weapon) **
- Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien ***
- Ayashi no Ceres (Ceres Celestial Legend) *
- Figure 17: Tsubasa and Hikaru **
- Gunslinger Girl **
- Hoshi no Koe **
- Kanon *
- Macross Zero **
- Evangelion **
- Uchuu no Stellvia (Stellvia of the Universe) **
- Fruits Baskets *
- Tsukihime *
- Haibane Renmei *
- Scrapped Princess *

(Zero, stop adding or I'll have to keep editing my post  )

The stars are how realistic it is. One star = magic stuff, making it unrealistic, two stars is science fiction, might be realistic in the future, three stars is quite realistic.

All the anime on this list are quite good ones IMO, except for Gunslinger Girl, which you might find a tad boring -_- Keep in mind the little stars are NOT a rating for how good the anime is. They are all worth watching -_-

You should try Fruits Basket, as has been suggested. I also recommend Fushigi Yugi, though it is 52 episodes long. And Naruto is a really, really, really good anime.

So in short;

Fushigi Yugi-A girl reads a mysterious book that brings her into some magical world, where she becomes a figure of high authority. This world is far from her own, in a different time and place, and the book is the only means of travel. She falls in love with a special guy in there, and she wants to stay with him, but there are two worlds..so..yeah. She also must fill a task she promised she would fufill, in which Suzaku will give her 3 wishes.

Fruits Basket-A highschooler girl's mom dies, she lives by herself outside in a tent until she meets up with a few of the 12 animes of the Chinese Zodiac. She starts hanging out with them, and you see here learn about their family, way of life, and they learn a bit about here and appreciate her being there. Like Fushigi Yugi, you'll not think it too interesting by just reading about it, so...look around for reviews, or actually watch some of it(it takes about 6 episodes of Fushigi Yugi to COMPLETELY hook you)

Naruto-84 episodes so far and still in production(I believe), this is a very good anime about a boy named Naruto who has the power of a nine-tail-fox in him, and he's a ninja trying to become Hokage(a super elite title.) Its really, REALLY good, so you should give it a try. Read the manga at least.

I tried to summarize as best as I could, w/out runing anything so...if I did, sorry, please tell me and I"ll immediately edit it.

(sorry angelic, I couldn't resist either) XD
That's mean... although I have to agree. <_<

Not to offend any Naruto fans and all, but it's a good anime to... umm... experience nonetheless.

And above anything else, I suggest the main series done by Clamp (Card Captor Sakura, X, Chobits, etc.), and "classics" such as Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Hellsing, and Vandread. There's lots, but these are my favorites because they all have some sort of twistedness to them.

I just have to say that Zero's list has pretty much all of my favorites there so i'm not sure what else to add. Maybe Mizuiro 2003 (the new one, not the hentai one).

Plus u like serious thought provoking stuff u'd have to go with Lain. It's definaly not for everyone tho. I still can't decide if i like it or not.

i also recommend FMP (also fumoffu), Scryed, and Fushigi Yuugi

Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Wolf's Rain, Escaflowne , Inuyahsa are some good ones. Evangelion and Inuyasha have lots of drama

Realistic? Go for Kenshin. It's partly based off of actual events and just modified for a better story. Kenshin was actually based off of a real hitokori (assassin) and the Meiji Era and the Kamiya swordmanship style was real. There's also Neon Genesis Evangelion, which is very dramatic.
