I've been playing piano for a little over 6 months now and my love for playing is constantly growing. I love music from anime, video-games, classical, anything with piano really.

This site is on my top list for sheet music, so I decided to make a profile and check out the forums. I hope I can learn something from you guys, or just have a good time here :D

Hello again. We met in the "What are you listening to..." thread. i was wondering do you play an instrument? I just started playing cello.

Yes I remember you :)
I've played the guitar for a few years, never too serious, though. I started playing the piano in March, which I do take very, very serious. Next to the fun playing I'm also having practice, research, and learning sessions. (which is also fun at times :D)

One of my friends was interested in the cello, How long have you been playing now?

I have been playing cello for about four of five months. It seems like I have been playing longer than that because I put a huge amount of time and money into practicing, equipment, and private lessons. It has been my desire to learn piano. Yet, a good piano instructor has not been easily accessible to me because of either the cost or location of the teacher's studio. Now I have had guitar, piano, bass teachers in the past. Some of the instructors could not read music, but they could play very well. Yet, I will never accept a teacher that can not read music again because learning to read music is very important. A few instructors had Master's degrees in music but I did not have the money or the time to take full advantage of their instruction. I could only afford half hour lessons then; and, I was a full-time graduate student in Biochemistry with teaching duties. Now I got a union job with benefits and I am not attending school. So, I am in a much better position to learn. My biggest driving force for learning the cello is the highly qualified cello instructor that lives near my house. He charges less than the current rate of $50/hr; and I am his only student right now.

I have been taking private lessons from a teacher that has been playing since he was seven years old. My instructor has college BFA degree in cello performance, and he went to graduate school in town for a short time. Afterwards, he decided to leave school and go into the banking industry because he wanted a job with steady pay and benefits. I did a similar career move myself. I work in transportation because of the high salary, medical, and retirement benefits. My jobs as a chemist only yield temporary and contract labor with no medical or retirement benefits. I digress. Since I have the time and money to get such a good teacher I practice as much as I can and never miss any lessons. It has been paying off also. I am into book two of the three cello study books we use. Now I must admit Book 2 is a partly review of book one, yet it is still encouraging to finish book one and work out of book two. It is my intention to exploit the blessing of having such a good music instructor all to myself. He just came into town last year, so a lot of people do not know that he is here yet. Piano is still my preferred instrument; but, I rather play the cello because I have the help to make me an excellent cellist. Many of the skills for learning the cello will transfer over to piano. The cello has a bass clef and treble clef music. Therefore, I an learn the entire piano bass and treble clef without learning the piano. I will seek piano instruction after a year or two of studying cello.

Wow, that's really cool. It must be great to have such an experienced teacher, and it's great to hear that you don't take him for granted.
I don't really have money to take lessons, so everything I do, I learned on the internet. It gets so exhausting to constantly correct yourself and look for steps to take.
