so i've been playing piano for quite a few years now, and i've decided that i want to play something besides all those classical music pieces you find in lesson books and stuff. well, i was at my church one day, and i heard this guy play these music pieces that were so beautiful, yet sad at the same time. it almost made me want to cry. they sounded kinda like anime/game songs, but i'm not sure. anyway, does anyone have any suggestions for sad/depressing songs i can play on the piano? thanks in advance.. :)

p.s. i noticed that there's another thread on peaceful songs, but just fyi i'm asking for more saddish songs :heh: so yea.. lol

Ups .. heh sorry. Well the only sheet music I have in my computer is Yiruma_RiverFlowsinYou.pdf (http://s24.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0CG5PVUS3HSMD2WIVGBI2RULDX). It's not all that depressing/sad, but it's pretty. ^^

I'd say the Laputa: Castle of the Sky theme song is really good. It seems sad, but it also has that triumphant feel in the song as well. You can find it on this site :)

www.animescores.com has the sheet music for it.

"Join Me in Death" by HIM is pretty depressing song yet beautifull at the same time. It is bascly a song inspired by the Romeo and Juliet story. I like it a lot but still it is very depressing.

I don't know but if you want a sad but beatiful song look for the Kol Nidre by Max Brunch or Violin Partita no. 2 (i think no. 2) by bach.

the Princess Mononoke theme...that is possibly the most bittersweet peice of music I have ever heard.

I'm currently trying to learn all of the Mononoke music on marimba, but it's all coming out too happy...

You took the words away from me. Though I was only going to suggest dearest for sad-sweet song. Every heart is too powerful to be what she is looking for (IMHO). But ya The Dearest on ichigos is SUPERB. I will eventually learn it (I already learned every heart)

Let's see....

The Sixth Station from Spirited Away

That piece is hauntingly beautiful, but is filled with melancholy sorrow. It should be somewhere in the forums. I try to find it and post the link.

All these anime tunes...

How about Cancer by My Chemical Romance? How about Lavinia by The Veils? I find most anime songs to be melodramatic, try to listen to pieces that are written soley for the sake of depression or sadness instead. I'm of course speaking to you as a composer now and not as a performer, so you might not care about the genuinity of the pice.

Well, just my $0.02.

The instrumental intermezzo from the Italian Opera Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni it can bring Sad feelings. it depend how you see or feel the music. Also it was use in some films and the anime Rurouni Kenshin. Just thought of that one at the moment. n_N

Now That's Love - Joe Hisaishi
Song From a Secret Garden - Secret Garden

You cannot beat Chopin's Funeral March from Sonata No. 2

The A theme is as everybit as sad as it is beautiful and trimphant, as the B theme is sad and enlightening.

Try 'Hokage's Funeral' from Naruto. It's quite easy, but sad and sweet at the same time. Also 'Hinata vs Neji from Naruto as well. It's got the same mood as 'Hokage's funeral'.
For 'Hinata vs Neji', most of the transcriptions have been made for flute and piano, but there should be one somewhere with only piano... If there isn't it's not too hard to play the flute part if you work it out. :D Thanks for making this thread, it's really helpful!

Hehe, try Rozen Maiden. Alot of the pieces in there aren't terribly sad, but have a semi-depressing tone to it. Even the main theme, Battle of Rose, can be considered somewhat sad. None the less, all the pieces are very beautiful.

Kill The Messenger - Jack's Mannequin
Rescued Jack's Mannequin
MFEO: Part 2, You Can Breathe Now - Jack's Mannequin

How To Save A Life - The Fray (it's so sad, based on a real event)
Vienna - The Fray
Breakable - Ingrid Michaelson
Keep Breathing - Ingrid Michaelson (if you can find music for Ingrid Michaelson songs, but they're so depressing)

Kanashimi no Mukou he (To the Other Side of Sadness) from School Days. The title enough says it's a depressing song; but, when you listen it's rather indescribable.
Either than this, try Tori no Uta from AIR or Aozora from AIR.
