Has anyone seen this film? I saw it just earlier on the Sundance Channel and it really moved me! It's got no dialogue whatsoever, but it has a moving musical score which spans landscapes of nature to the technological world of today. The film pivots back and forth between slow-motion and time-lapse, giving fluidity and languidness all at the same time. It's really saddening when you think about part of the theme; natural environment has been replaced by a mechanical, automatated man-made "nature" which fills us with all sorts of hardships that I wonder if mankind was ever meant to endure. I particularly found the last 20 minutes very captivating of the theme and human autonomy in general - every time that deep organ drone kicks in and the bass choir starts up chanting, "Koyaanisqatsi," you know you're going to be in for another mental bullet to dodge.

This is a great film, but it is not recommended if you suffer the effects of a short attention span. (Kudos to the modern media....)

If you've seen this film, what are your views on it?

I got to see it when it first came out. (i.e. In a theater) It made quite an impression on me. It was the first time that I got to see film as an art form rather than just a bit of light, mindless entertainment. I didn't particularly like the music at first (I hadn't started my love affair with Classical Music just yet and found it *way* too repetitive), but I was practically hypnotized by the visual imagery. A definite must-see!

I LOVE Philip Glass's music. The man is a fabulous composer. Some of his stuff just...frazzles my brain, but in a good way

whoooooaaaa... that was weird/cool/crazy/awesome all at once. Great imagery, good music (although the repetition got to me at the end of the fast-motion segment)

Yeh, it was pretty a pretty unique movie, but you really have to allot yourself some time to enjoy this (the pace of the movie is very deliberate). The soundtrack is pretty nice too (though I like Powaqqatsi's soundtrack best of the "Qatsi" trilogy; it sounds quite different from the usual Glass stuff).
