hiya. i'm a newbie at finale
and i've got a whole bunch of questions
true enough i could read the quide
but i don't understand it most the timeX_X
and there is also stuff that isn't in there
1. i'm a violinist and i try to use the violin sound alot
but everytime i use it it's all scratchy
i've heard some pieces hear when the violin sounds like a real violin
:D all nice and warm and smooth
so i was wondering if anyone know how i can possibly do that?

I am not sure if my suggestion is useful because I am no good at soundfonts and things like that... But people say that if you want a nice, good sound of a specific instrument, you would need to download soundfonts to your soundcard or something like that  , but I am not too sure if that is the right thing to do...

I hate to give such a negative response but FINALE, in my opinion, is not a good music transcribing program. My friend uses SEBEALIUS (SP?) which he claims is much better than FINALE. I have tried using FINALE in the past and I to have had difficulties.

I think what you need to do is open a new file and select the instrument. When viewing the score, select window-> Instrument List. In there will be a list of all instruments being used in the song. You want to click down underneath the patch tab and select add an instrument. Select the approprate instrument and off you go. (By default, Violin, Cello, Bass, and Viola are set as string ensemble.)

Finale comes with its own soundfont.

A. If you have the full Finale
Go to MIDI>MIDI Setup>Set MIDI Out to "SmartMusic Softsynth"
But that only applies if you can.

B. If you just have Finale Notepad (regular)
Make sure Human Playback is enabled. I don't know where that is but search the guide for that. It might be under Options I suppose.

Now you stay away from Sibelius. I had to use it for a class project and it wasn't pleasant.

my advice is to start out with noteworthy composer, very user friendly, more options than finale, and you can make the whole song without a mouse.

I only downloaded Finale for ichigos...btw does anyone know how to make grace notes on Finale?
