Hi, I'm a violinist with one of my two school symphonies, and I need help with vibrato. Can anyone provide tips or help? Thanks.

Sureos! All you do is do something called sticky taps. You put your fingers on the fingerboard and move them around a little. You can also do polishing. It is where you move your hand up and down the finger board. You make the polish littler and littler eacvh time til you eventually stop and there you go! a nice vibrato! :D

Some of the best advice I can give you is to make sure you are moving your wrist/arm/fingers TOWARD AND AWAY FROM YOU, NOT SIDE TO SIDE! Otherwise, you'd be learning it the wrong way. :) Also, which vibrato are you developing? Finger, wrist, or arm vibrato? I use a combination of wrist and arm delay vibrato most of the time, and it works pretty well for me. :)
Perhaps later I can add more advice, but write now I can smell a pizza in the microwave that's screaming my name. ;)

stick your finger to the string and shake your arm along the neck. what do you need help with, specifically?

curl your finger round like your meant to and keep the rest of the hand away from the board. then loosen your wrist and shake that arm towards and away from you. That's what my teacher calls my "good vibrato" which you can control the speed of. I think that's meant to be the perfect way of doing it but i hate doing it because i can't hold my violin properly otherwise.

here is a good site where you can learn the vibrato properly:
http://www.violinmasterclass.com
It's a site from Egon Sassmannshaus. He has written some books for beginners playing the violin. Maybe you know him

I hate violin (no offense to pplz, but I quit last yr haha). Anyway, I learned by moving my finger back and forth slightly around the place where you would press for the note. Keep doing that from slow to fast, den try vibrato again. Jus a lil tip.

I play the violin, yea, I don't think I can really help anymore ^^; my tip is just to learn to relax your wrist and don't bounce the bow...yea...whatever ^^

Well, i learned it a long time ago, but lets see what i can remember...I dont think theres a specific way to learn, the most important thing is to relax your left hand so it can move easier. But after that, you just have to let it happen by itself, at least, thats how i learned it.
