I've heard of this syndrome - they talked a little about it at a Royal Institution Lecture I went to in the UK on vision. Another example is stimulation of the pressure receptors upon seeing colours, for example feeling pain when one sees the colour orange, and suchlike. What's more fascinating than the senses themselves is the myriad of things that can go wrong with them. It's a shame such a thing can't be stimulated artificially so that those who are completely deaf can still enjoy listening to music!

thats it right there!! evolution of the human mind. if we can breed that person we can develop a race with powerful senses in one or all or the other then if we breed that person we can make the psychotic mind, one who can use the mind to bend the rules of everything around him. but thats just my theory, the story is pretty amazing, makes me want to study biogenetics even harder. :D
