Masamune Shirow's classic manga is now coming to the big screen in a CG format. Editorials are saying that this soon-to-come movie passes the milestone that Akira has set for anime...I'm not beliving it. I give a huge amount of credit to the original manga, but the movie seems to be transformed and "Americanized" to fit the modern day action-loving American's likings. This makes my blood boil. Not only have they made this movie in CG format, but I haven't seen Masamune's name under any lists of directors or producers. This makes me wonder, how great could the new Appleseed movie really be? For all of us purists out there, lets keep out fingers crossed that this doesn't ruin another classic.
This of coarse is my opinion, based on some things I've read...what's yours?

I thought the Appleseed movie came out last year... the subbed version is being shown at my anime society in a fortnight

came out last year in japan, indeed. soon to be overseas.

personally, i like the cg, but i've heard that it's badly done in places, when there isn't much movement.

a film you haven't yet seen is hardly cause for your blood boiling.

Well, I've seen it, and I thought it sucked - FAR too many "Ooo, let's do slow-mo and show off our awesome uber-l33t CG skills" moments. And the plot was just plain naff - it really did feel contrived and relied on coincidence too much, plus it switched "baddies" too often so it got to the point where I was like "FFS, who's up to no good now? Do I really care?"

And urgh, the CGing of the anime characters made the thing look like a cross between Thunderbirds and the Sims.

Just bleh X_X
