Did this for school project, the point was to make a sensible melody while breaking chord rules and such. After saving as Midi, I had to reduce volume of the strings using sonar, cuz it sounded overpowering on the clavinova. Anyway, what do you think of this?
Note: Finally Completed, final version bellow
UPDATE 5th of July, 2005:
Changed midi to MP3 in first post, the midi version is few posts down.
As well as new song on the 2nd page titled melfull.mp3 enjoy :heh: :sweatdrop:

It really doesn't sound like you are breaking much rules at all - what "chord rules" are you referring to? The piece itself sounds pretty nice, but the "melody" feels a bit weak, probably cause the "accompaniment" parts are pretty busy when it plays. Maybe you should use a seperate instrument to play the entire melody, or make the melodic notes sound louder.

Actually, the melody sounds fine to me. I know that if this was performed, the melody would stand out much clearer. Anyways, for a school project, this was very good! I hope you got a great mark for it =P I didn't like the strings though . . too loud (blocked the piano) and too brief/unexpected to justify its use.

i agree. melody was great. i didn't hear any rule breaking chords.. well maybe at the last few measures. but this song reminded me of someone i know who uses a lot of 16th notes.

Nice song, very good!! :D I like it
Keep up the good work! Have you do this song alone or with some helps?

Well yes, alone. But only because I'm inspired from games i've played awhile ago, even though my composition may not sound anything like it. (ex. PSO, Chrono Cross, FF series)
Thanks, but obviously i need more experience before composing something decent, if i'm lucky, within my lifetime :D

Bump, I changed the song alot, and completed it. Many hours wasted composing this joint, but had to spot for grace notes >_< LOL
Note: Attachment Above was replaced to the same file as this, to clear the confusion

I like the song. It's damn good. Nice melody, good string layer. Keep it up.
Bump, I changed the song alot
A professionel composer once said to me: "When I finished a song, I don't touch it anymore. If I overthink it aigain and again and change it many times, I'll sit my half life at this one and don't finish any songs else. If you write a song and finish it, don't change it anymore leave it as it is."
In my oppionion he's absolutly right. Don't change your songs too much. Rather compose a new one, wher you work with the improvements, but leave your song as it is.

Thanks, I'm not worthy of such praise. Anyway, I created it only using Finale, not sure if it's playable. Here is my 2nd song, for school thing again. Latter is not as good as the first, well this saying must fit here, this is slower, more relaxed piece. Guitar+Piano

It's a pretty decent piece, though the instrumentation is not exactly ideal for contrast. In fact, it kinda feels like it's written completely for piano only, and you simply have one of the tracks playing w/ the nylon guitar patch. The piece itself seems to be a mostly bunch of variations w/ the given 4-chord progression, not that I'm complaining too much about that. It could've been a little bit more tighter in terms of structure, but overall, it sounds alright. Keep them coming.

i like it ::does a weird jig:: :D but the ending on this one bothers me as well!
i dunno i guess i just dont like the clashing chord exit.... I agress with this guy tho ::point at spc1st:: It sounds as tho u wrote it 4 piano. its still good tho better than anything i could do. good job

Wow . . I don't know, the piano + guitar somehow works here, haha. Maybe it's the midi, but it sounds like it belongs in a video game. I really love your rhythm and harmony!

Wow.
They're both great. I'm not exactly sure if the first one is playable at all, though. It doesn't sound like it is. Maybe I'm hearing it wrong or not listening close enough, but it sounds like there's two melodies going on in the treble clef. And, that, with the forboding dark chords in the background is kind of impossible (at this speed, anyway, maybe), unless somebody's right hand has ten figures. = \ But, if it IS impossible, you could always simply make it for two pianos.
I especially love the second one, too. It could probably all be played on a piano but, nevertheless, the piano and guitar duo works and makes a better mood than a piano alone probably could've, anyway.
Excellent. ^_^

I liked your first one better. I doubt the top one was your first composition but i think it's good. There's no rule breaking but that's hard to do as you know. I think you've made the point that you're good (looks at other comments) but you could be better too.
Something I always recommend is making a piece emotional. Compose some notes that would hit the heart. I listen to a lot of music here that doesn't have that quality, but the best people here do it in some of their pieces.
Also, try to make a piece that involves the instruments a lot of the time because it's really boring for the musicians if there's like 100 bars rest (refers to the strings in your first piece). I know I sound like a drag, but it's what I do when I hear someone who is good. Don't take it personally. It's a shame if you can't play it youself though... XD
hope I pumped you up to make a better one.
