Sorry I don't quite get what you mean? Are you saying I'm missing notes in measure 11? Or that I added an extra note where there shouldn't be?

After listening to the song a couple more times I did make some changes to measure 11 and 12. I don't know if this is what you meant? (I only uploaded page 1 because I didn't make any changes to the other pages. I will re-upload all sheets together when this gets sorted out.)

Hello, let me first introduce myself as this is my first post here. I am a growing anime fan, which seems natural to me as I grew up with such great games like Final Fantasy (series) and Chrono Trigger. My first draw into anime was Tenchi Muyo on Cartoon Network around 10-years ago (man I'm old).

I've enjoyed "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" (TMoHS) since it first aired in 2006, but only recently became obsessed after the 2nd season. Which led me here to Ichigo's Sheet Music via the song "God Knows" through youtube. IMHO, the piano solo version is extremely accurate to the anime, but the down side is that it looks extremely hard to play. The one found on youtube of the same version of "God Knows" here is actually part of a series of videos by who I think is the same guy with the same level of detail: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5Kl6pKiaps&feature=related&fmt=18

I would like to formally request that the rest of his accurate renditions are transcribed here to complete the full piano solo set to season 1 of TMoHS, complementing the "God Knows" version already here. Please don't take my word for it. Please listen to the youtube links I post below to see if you would agree with me that this guy has it dead on with the piano. The reason I feel these may have overlooked over the past three years is that to find these compositions, you have to search in Japanese. :P

Also fortunately, all the links have a direct overhead view of all the keys played, which hopefully makes things easier.

What do you mean by "deadly accurate?" This is very subjective when it comes to "arrangements". In arrangements you're comparing apples and oranges. When arranging for piano, you have to make a lot of compromises to make it humanly possible to play. It's a rock band arranged for piano. If you want something really accurate, then it would be rock band transcribed for rock band, no more no less. Moreover, what's more important is that the piano captures the mood and feel of the song. By this I mean adding more chords and notes.

If you're crazy about accuracy, a full scale midi of the entire piece might be for you. Search DJ Bouche. I admire his TMoHS midis.

I 100% agree with you in that it is subjective and I should have clarified a bit more on what I meant. I not a musical person, definitely not a musical expert, but it would seem to me that these piano versions/arrangements capture the essence of the songs as originally played on several instruments, in the sense that there is does not seem to be any pieces of the music/melody missing or noticeably simplified. In other words, based on many different piano versions I've heard, I feel that this is the closest to the original soundtracks that one can get away with a single person playing a piano. In my original post I asked for people to compare it for themselves to see if they agree or disagree with me. It's fine to disagree, in fact I'm interested if anyone has found a better version in their opinion and any disagreements are welcomed.

Without trying to be too cheesy (I know this will sound cheesy), I feel that TMoHS has a seemly magical feel to it, an instant classic, and something really special. Maybe it's how it was aired, maybe it's how unique the series are in that there's no real genre that it fits nicely into, maybe this is all my subjective interpretation. In the end, in searching for the truest arrangements and in requesting these transcriptions, I am trying to capture some beautiful music with all the meanings and emotions behind TMoHS into advanced pieces that one can really try to push themselves to play.

In all honesty, I played the piano many many years ago and not very well. I was never really motivated back then. Watching anime, and playing games like FF2, FF3, Chrono Trigger et al, has given me some motivation to relearn how to play. TMoHS and the song "God Knows" (as posted on Ichigos) really has set a very high bar that one day I would be very proud to be able to play and play well. So in the end, I want these for selfish reasons. I want to be able to play these very nice, yet seemingly very advanced arrangements. The upside is that with Ichigos and the internet, others can benefit from the arrangements I've found, if they find and end up agreeing with me that these arrangements are worth playing and transcribing. Of course the real credit goes to those that used their musical talents to come up with these arrangements, and also to anyone who is willing to contribute their musical abilities and time in transcribing these arrangements for those like me who are trying to strive to play something they would very much enjoy while trying to become proficient at the piano.

Was drafted quite a long time ago (but never a finished version), so it could be quite poorly transcribed indeed. Anyway see if you like the style. :P

Out of curiosity, how did you come up with it? Did you just write this all based on what you heard, or your interpretation of how it should be on a piano?

I would guess that it's harder (much harder?) trying to convert the original songs to a solo piano version, versus starting with the piano version I've linked to and transcribing the notes down on paper. Thanks for the link. It seems pretty good (based on the midi), not sure how how well it plays as I haven't tried playing it yet. I'm taking it that the voice is a separate track, or I would have to try my singing skills? :heh:

Out of curiosity, how did you come up with it? Did you just write this all based on what you heard, or your interpretation of how it should be on a piano?

I would guess that it's harder (much harder?) trying to convert the original songs to a solo piano version, versus starting with the piano version I've linked to and transcribing the notes down on paper. Not sure how one exactly figures out the timing of the notes and such, would think one would need a good ear too. Somehow I think I'm in way over my head...

Anyway, I usually write things as close to what I hear as i can, but for harehareyukai i took a bit of a shortcut and used a bit of imagination too (it was a request and i didnt have the time and effort to do it properly).

You are right in saying it is much easier to transcribe an already piano-ized version - hence the topic of this thread - but i don't usually transcribe unofficial arrangements unless i really like them. Either way, you will need to be able to hear the notes with your ear and tap the rhythm - which may be hard at first but i believe can be trained. (Having said that, i could probably do a better version of that song now than before.)

If you really want to know what goes on in a transcriber's thoughts, then read How to Transcribe music (http://forums.ichigos.com/showthread.php?t=14654) or a bit of Transcribing Polyphony (http://forums.ichigos.com/showthread.php?t=15192). Everyone has their own way of transcribing. Mine might be a little sophisticated lol.

Make sure you post a video of yourself singing and playing (and dancing with the keyboard strapped around your neck?)! Then perform it in front of your friends. Then in front of the audience at your school. And if you ever do decide to go, the anime convention. :rukia:
