gameplay offcourse, if the gameplay sucks the whole game just sucks

Damn you, out of all people I expected you to go for GFX :(

I mean, why play Doom3 while Doom1 rocks everything?

well actually I dont know what to expect really from Doom III I played the Beta and yes the controls sucked back then..... but what really kicked ars already was the AI and especially the FREAKED OUT atmosphere .... man I almost shit my pants when a little turd looking thing was laying there on the ground ten metres away from you and then suddenly jumps right in your face..... so if the gameplay still sucks in the official release yeah then youre right :D

Doom1 could freak me out a few years ago

By the way, Gargoyle's quest on the NES had a very dark and disturbing atmosphere, even though the graphics were 8-bit.

Gameplay, like always. Secondary is good graphics.

I think good sound is the most memorable. I think that no matter how good a game is, you can only play it so many times, but a good OST you can listen to over and over (and over and over and over) and I think that's what is truly memorable.

The original Clock Tower for Super Famicom had just regular old 16 bit graphics and plain ol' midis, but even so it's the scariest game I've ever played. You're just always so on edge, and the music will freak you out, or give you a heart attack.

So what do I vote for? hmm I don't think I can vote

Gameplay. It is why so many old-school games are still considered great these days.

Sound and graphics are important aspects, and they can really impact on the game when used effectively, but without gameplay, they're just a bunch of bells and whistles. Why play the game when the thought of looking at the graphics or listening to the music is more appealing? The gameplay is what ties it all together, it's what makes you want to play.

I said sound....I'll give you an example of what happened to me today...

My brother and I wanted to play Halo. Tis fun. But....our X-Box has gone all wacky and has no sound. We put the game in...played for about two minutes....and turned it off. It was Nothing without the sound. I sat around all day with no Halo. I nearly died. The End.

gameplay is everything...you could have great sound, great controls...but no story line or anything...its not worth playing...

but again...like the point Lovely brought up...i cant play games with any sound...

gameplay of course.. yess.. sound would be next up in my list ^_^
unless if it's a novel-style game, then graphics would be 2nd ^^

actually i would say story and gameplay are the best for it. if it has a crappy story then whats the point really..?to me most vid games as in RPG's are like visual books and the thing that drives me to go further the most is to know more
well if story is in with gameplay then im all set ^^

Being old I go for gameplay as well, lost count of the amount of time Star Wars (the atari one) & Qix among others have taken up, while the graphics can be good they arent all there is as someone probably once said 'all flash & no substance is bad'

But Pong has no sound, and Pong has no good graphics, and Pong is still great =P

If I could only vote twice...

I think that Gameplay and sound tie hand in hand when it comes to video games. With chezzy sound effects it can distract you from the gameplay. If the game is physically unplayable :what: (superman 64), then the music could be LSO for all I care, you just cannot pass this one jumping puzzle...
