I've got a group of well trained vocalists and band members who are willing to do some recording work for me, and I'd love to see some of the works posted here semi-professionally recorded. I can only do so many songs, and while I do have favorites I could certainly understand that the composers might not want them recorded, and just because I like them doesn't mean they are good choices.

So instead, I'd like to hold a small competition-sort of thing to determine the five peices I can record. Basically, I'd like to host a open-entry competition to choose 5 songs that my group can record. The songs would then be recorded, burned to cds, and mailed to the composers, as well as distributed here. I'd be conducting, but don't worry, music is my major with emphasis on conducting. We'd work it till it sounded right to the you. I'd dearly love to hear some of these live, instead of midi.

Rules:
1. Piece may be either a new or previously composed piece
2. No longer than 10:00 minutes
3. Must have at least 4 tracks (parts) (Solos aren't worth the effort)
4. Common AMERICAN instruments are preffered.
5. Only one entry per composer

These rules are not set in stone, just wanting to get a feel for what people think of this.

UPDATE:
Ahem, after having looked around, I've got one fore to add:
6. Don't kill my musicians! (In relation to Black & White, or Death of the Right Hand)

Distributed where you are? I'd like royalties, please!

Seriously tho, I don't think that's really a fair trade off - people shouldn't have to give up their copyright on their work just to have it recorded live, because that means you have all these VERY good songs in your hands to pass around while the composer doesn't get a penny of the money you make selling them X_X

This sounds like a fascinating idea! This is quite the opportunity for aspiring amateur composers like us who may never hear something of their's played lived. Too bad I'm too botched up w/ finals to compose something new (I haven't done some choral stuff for quite a while, and this would've been an excellent opportunity). I guess I'll submit this arrangment for woodwind quartet I did recently of the theme song to AIR. It's still somewhat rough around the edges, though I can fix it some if you decide it a worthwhile choice.

Woh, these are -not- going to be sold or distributed without the authors permission, and if any are sold the author will get fair compensation. I'm recording them, keeping a copy for myself and my band to enjoy, then sending copies back to the authors. Whatever they wish to do with them after that is more or less no longer my concern. By 'here' I ment the forums, however that is still the composers choice. (I figure that they are already here, so they wouldn't mind)

Fair dos, it was just the wording that made the offer seem a bit sus. Thanks for clarifying :)

Ok, just a bump. Please PM me if you'd like your songs recorded, I'd like to know by Sunday. I'm going to PM a few of you whose songs I really like, asking permission.
