Haven't we all been confused about the gender of a certain so-and-so in that certain so-and-so anime?

I just wanted to see what everyone has to say about this...

Yes I know the japanese are effeminate and their rock stars are androgynousv (take a gander at TM Revolution or the last pages of "Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge" they're soooo cool!). Yes I've read almost every post out there about sexuality in Japan compared to Sexuality in the US, heck I even read about homosexuality among Japanese samurai's and that kissing never existed in Japan before so-and-so time (I don't think they ever kiss in Rurouni Kensin or Samurai X do they? ...they did in Naruto but that's another story :D) I even found out that the Japanese thought Orli wasn't good enough to play Legolas (I agree) but other than that...

A few of my favorite anime's/character's where everyone around me goes "THAT'S A (insert gender here)!!!"

Sir Integra Winngates Hellsing (Hellsing) : My heart was broken when I watched this...Integra is a SHE!!!...she'd look so good as a guy. A few things that got me stumped as to her gender was a) SIR Integra (she was knighted so she get's the sir...but still) B) she has broad shoulders, or are those just her clothes that hide her femininity (sp?) c) Her face and Hair, huff said. She can pass as a really hot bishounen...seriously

Fuuchiyouin Kazuki (Get Backers) ... =_= yes...well...I know he does it on purpose and I really dig that look...heh ^_^

The whole male cast of Weiss Kreuz hehehe, I printed out a picture once of a very effeminate picture of the cast and asked everyone I knew to guess who was a guy and who was a girl...when I told them the truth they went like :blink:

The covers of "The Wallflower" my classmates avoided this book like the plague when I told them the person on the covers were guys...Miss Hayakawa likes bands (and The Nightmare Before Cristmas) and being in Japan androgynous guys are normal over here they look weird...I love this manga it's funny and weird and it's Jack, I was able to get my friends to read this when I told them that the author liked Bands and TNBC...

Maria Tachibana and Kirishima Kanna (Sakura Taisen/Sakura Wars) (this was another heartbreaker) Yes I know Maria's boobs can be seen quite clearly, but when I was watching the intro I thought she was a he (a very nice looking he) then I found out he was a she. Viewers don't meet Kanna til later on so I thought she was a he, not really a heartbreaker but whatever she's cool.

Envy (Fullmetal Alchemist) ENVY IS A GUY!!! this didn't bother me but it did my little brother haha

Ed (Cowboy Beebop) ...@_@ so many mixed signals...and Ed is a girl

Zarbon from DBZ is a guy, Kuja from FF9 is a guy, Sephiroth is a guy! (or so he claims, but I bet he's actually a sephiwuss B) ). Stuff like this happens all the time in anime and games XP

What about Haku from Naruto? We don&#39;t even know if it&#39;s a he or a she&#33; I borrowed the manga and in the character description it said "A ninja who&#39;s gender is undetermined." =_= Guess we&#39;ll never know the truth although I still think it&#39;s a girl... even if he said he&#39;s a "guy"... <_<

When I first saw "InuYasha" I thought that Shippo was a female. Of course, I also thought Inuyasha had cat ears -- I came into the series a bit late in it&#39;s second run and didn&#39;t learn the basics of the plot or characters for several weeks.

Yes, Haku is male. ... even though he dresses liek a girl. My friend said that maybe he dresses like that so no one will know who he is. (even though he wears a mask... when fighting with Zabuza) So he tries to hide it...?

This is kinda irrelevant (sp?) but whever I talked about Haku, I always said &#39;she.&#39; lol. Like "She seriously did that?" then my friend yells "HE&#33; ALRIGHT&#33;? HE&#39;S a HE&#33;&#33;&#33;"

But Naruto isn&#39;t in olden times/ancient Japan. It&#39;s actually pretty modern. They just design things (such as buildings that way) But they&#39;re pretty modern cause they have like glasses and telescopes and magazines and stuff. Anyway Yea im adding Haku to my list. He is definately a guy though they say call him a "him" more than once in the anime and when he was young he wore boy clothes =|.

I only fall for cross dressers. Everyone else is pretty easy for me to determine. There is no problem, other then with Edward from CowboyBebop. Like for Ranma, you know he&#39;s a he, no confusion, and if you actualy watch it, youll know why he transforms into a she, but still, no confusion because you then know its a she. No one should have any real problem, but Ed is a diffrent story...

Momiji from Furuba/Fruits Basket. I still have trouble telling myself that he&#39;s a guy. It just got worse when I noticed cute flower earrings and almost-skirts he keeps wearing in the manga.

Haku-Naruto ~ I always knew Haka was boy because of the voice. We didn't get to see his face so that was all I had to go on. Though I must say he is beautiful. ...I love beautiful men, I want him for myself. Damn him, he's still just a kid! Oh well.

Ed-Cowboy Bebop ~ I have come to terms that Ed may be a girl but she really doesn't have a gender. I have come to thinking of her as just being. I admit, I was one of the people who thought she was a he, but now it's Ed. Ed's my idol!

Terry-I.N.V.U ~ I only read OF this manga, I haven't read it. But they say that Terry is the name of a young girl's dead brother. Since her mother has a had time accepting his death the girl dresses like the brother. ("Color Of Night" With Bruce Willis!" I'd think that that would confuse me a bit should I ever read it.

(?)-Escaflowne, Visions of ~ This is only based on "she said" because I have only seen the movie and not the TV series. My cousin was telling me about Allen having a younger sister who goes missing, or something of that nature. Anywho, this pompous priss of a kid working for Van's older brother was the girl. ...Girl gone guy. I'm sure it wasn't HIS choice. (Though kind of a smart move. Periods are a living hell.) Now, what she said was confusing. I'm just putting this down for the confusion factor.

Dilando is indeed Allen's sister, but in the anime Dilando has a sex change by magic. In the end he shifts from a man to a woman. A little freaky if you ask me...

I get it, that he was a boy 'at first' but then what happened? cus he took off his freaky mask in front of the 3rd hokage, he had a girl's face! O.o!

ha ha. transexual...i was really confused in hellsing. i was like "okay, integra's a girl. er...what? SIR? uh...i guess it's a guy then...oh!it IS a girl!" and in this manga i'm reading called sequence the one...thing? titi(he he...) dresses up as a girl but always dresses like a boy...then it(?) says that it never kept track of his/her gender and it doesn't matter anyway! i was so confused! i still don't know cause he said "what do you think i am?" when the main character said "i think you're a guy" titi(ha ha!!) said "okay, i'm a guy then." gah! but i'm usually pretty good at picking out guys in anime. if it looks like a girl, sounds like a girl and acts like a girl, it's usally a boy. ha ha

I just read that part of Naruto with Orochimaru fighting "Monkey". I wondered if it was just me thinking he was in a little girls body. Guess not.
I used to think that Yoh from Shaman King was a chick when I would see the commercials on TV. (That would mean that I would have thought that Hao was a girl if I had seen him, too.) He looked like a little girl! But then I got my hands on Jump and started reading...There's, like, no girls in there...

Animated people have no gender. This is the conclusion I have reached after obtaining anime enlightenment. Guys look like Girls, Girls look like guys; and the versa of the two as well.

How about Kino from Kino's Journey? I could never tell if Kino was a guy or a girl. I wonder if Kino's one of those either or types? You know, like a no gender type character, where you, the viewer, decide if Kino's a he or a she.

Yes, I know they're from a boy-love anime but they look like girls (esp. Sunao with the pink hair) but I didn't know that when I was looking randomly through one of my Newtype USA magazines and decided to read about it. This disturbs me because I still think Sunao is kinda cute........I don't even want to talk about it. <_<

Kino is a female XD

It took me 2 hour long episodes on Imaginasian to realize that Kino was a girl.
When she had long hair she really looked like someone out of Miyazaki's works~

Heh, Kino's female? (only saw episode 1) My, the things you learn. I thought Kino was going to be one of those characters you'll never the know the gender of and it was up to you, the viewer, to decide whether or not Kino was male or female or leave alone the fact that Kino had no real gender, that it was a journey that either a male or a female could had made. I should had watched more of the show than trying to foreshadow the whole thing. :heh:

Edit: Was there ever a character that looked both male and female but the show never confirmed (with no bio facts either) the gender of the character? Just asking since my vision of what Kino was going to be was shattered. I really thought Kino would had been one of those types of characters. Made the show more interesting.......now I want to finish watching Kino's Journey now! :lol: I'm interested in the show again. Heh, I gotta see how it ends.
