I'm new at this composing thing so I'll have a bunch of questions...
1. How do you make a midi of the song you composed?
2. How do you make duets?
3. How do you put that thing where it says what tempo the song should go? The tempo thing is usually above the first line of the song...
Thanks for dealing with my newbie questions! Sorry if there is another topic with the exact same questions...I searched for topics like this already, so I might have missed some...Thanks!

I can only answer #1 and 3:
Finale Notepad is not capable of making midi files.
The tempo'll have to be manually typed in with the text tool.

Here's a new question for you.
How do you, if you can change the time signature in the middle of a song? for example I want to go from 4/4 to 5/4.

I'm having trouble with that too ^_^;; I also can't change the key signature during the middle of a song, which is a big pain. Can't transcribe Tori no Uta cuz of that :@ :@ :@

2. Just use two instruments to play a tune between them. Utilise their strengths of sounds and pitch and keep them playing at the same time for most of the piece. It's hard to do a good one though.
I don't think you can change the key sig in the middle of a piece or the time signature in the middle of a piece. It sucks. You can't even change clefs! It's just a notepad so I guess you shouldn't expect the whole package which is lame.

Ok, I have a new question...
A lot of people are talking about stuff like it so, how do you use a midi file and create the music for it? Like something about importing a midi and the program turns it into sheet music...I'm just so confused...

I have problems with finale also, thats why i prefer to do it the old fashioned way: with a pencil and some staff paper! But finale helps because you can play it and hear it all at once immediately.

I was wondering if you can change the time signature in the middle of the piece with Finale. I tried, and it always changes my whole piece to higher note or lower. is there a way to change the time signatures with Finale?

I think you have to buy one of their products to do that stuff. I've tried all that stuff myself, and of course I haven't been able to.

There's no program or anything that can create music for a MIDI file-the only way to do it is to plain old listen to the MIDI and do your best to transcribe it. Besides, the ones that do convert MIDI's into music always come out as messy stuff.
